Santa Ana Mater Dei took home the Challenge of Champions bracket championship, beating Corona Centennial in Sunday’s title game. Below is a breakdown of the All-Event Team, selected by myself, Ronnie Flores of Ballislife and Frank Burlison of Burlison on Basketball. We’ll start with the selections from the main bracket.
Christian Jones Christian Jones 6'4" | SF Bishop Montgomery | 2023 State CA-S , 2023, Bishop Montgomery – Jones is a guy who could see his recruitment pick up during his senior season. The 6-foot-4 wing is such a versatile defensive player where at times the Knights need him to guard the other team’s top scorer or slide down low and take the lead on an opponent’s big man. Jones is an athletic and crafty finisher in transition who also showed improvement to his perimeter jump shot.
Eli Bradley Eli Bradley 6'2" | SG Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV , 2023, Bishop Gorman – Bradley was another Gorman player who had to step up in the absence of a couple of talented teammates and did so with his ability to stretch the floor. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is one of the best sharpshooters in Nevada and was especially lethal from the corners at the Ron Massey Fall Hoops Classic. The lefty has a quick release, is always shot-ready and, because of those things, doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off.
Eric Freeny Eric Freeny 6'5" | SG Corona Centennial | 2024 State #73 Nation CA-S , 2024, Corona Centennial – Freeny’s “jack of all trades” style of game might go under-appreciated by some, but his ability to do a little bit of everything while not dominating the ball is an important ingredient to the Huskies success. The 6-foot-4 guard/wing is as solid as they come defensively, he rebounds on both ends of the floor, can handle and initiate offense, is a high IQ passer and is an efficient interior scorer.
Elzie Harrington, 2025, St. John Bosco – Harrington didn’t have his most inspired outing in a Saturday win over Bishop Montgomery, but he bounced back in a big way in a tight loss to Centennial on Sunday. The highly-regarded 2025 point guard scored 14 of his 18 points in a strong second half effort which sparked a Braves’ comeback, but they eventually fell, 56-55, to the reigning Southern Section and State Open Division champions. Harrington plays with an elite passing IQ and has great size for the point guard position at 6-feet-5.
