Continue ReadingProspects in Class of 2024 are entering a pivotal point of their development. After a busy spring and summer on AAU circuits, these high upside post prospects look ready to dominate this winter. This grouping of post prospect could be broken down into one tier basically, as the separation between the 6th ranked prospect in this class and the 12th ranked prospect is razor thin. There are clear paths to Division One basketball for all four prospects listed here. And when the rankings are reevaluated in the winter, it wouldn’t be shocking to see these names completely flipped around. The class of 2024 is that deep when it comes to talent, and hopefully that stokes the competitive fire of the prospects in Oklahoma.
#6 Luke Gray Luke Gray 6'7" | PF Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK , 6’7 Power Forward, Oklahoma Christian School
Gray is more than meets the eye. He has a powerfully built frame, with good explosiveness to match. Those two traits make him a strong rebounder and finisher around the basket. That foundation alone would make him a Division One level college prospect. But the steady improvement of his shooting ability showcases the versatility he brings to the floor. Gray has turned into a consistent shotmaker from beyond the arc. This has turned him into not only a weapon as a roll man in ball screens situations, but also a pick and pop threat. Right now he profiles more as a stretch four than a true hybrid forward. He’s currently stiff in the hips relative to permitter players, but has shown promise with some face up driving abilities.
#8 Jayden Mott Jayden Mott 6'8" | PF Edmond Santa Fe | 2024 State OK , 6’8 Power Forward, Carl Albert
One of the biggest jumpers in the rankings is the intriguing prospect from Carl Albert. Mott first caught attention as a raw but very promising prospect in multiple viewings last December and January. At the time, he wasn’t always the most productive but his frame and light on his feet movements screamed huge upside. Mott’s potential and development is reminiscent of Class of 2020 standout Jalen Breath, who now plays for University of North Carolina Greensboro. Similar to watching the Carl Albert Titan last winter, Breath as a sophomore looked like a player who didn’t realize how good he could be, but was blessed with similar physical gifts.
Over the last year Mott has started to grow into his frame and now is starting to show huge upside. He turned heads especially at UCO team camp, where his added muscle and confidence had him assaulting the basket with rim rattling slams. If the last six months of progress is a sign of a developing trend, Mott’s size, wingspan, improving strength and motor could have Mott battling “more established names” in the class for a top 5 ranking this winter.
#9 Chris Mason Chris Mason 6'6" | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK , 6’6 Power Forward, Victory Christian
Mason from a raw ceiling perspective has a very strong case to be a top 5 player in the class. He’s physically gifted with a combination of broad-shoulders and athletic ability that combined with good shooting ability point toward a high ceiling. While the upside is still there, the production has not been. Especially relative to his ability to dominate a game as a rebounder and as a monster in the paint. The challenge for Mason going forward will be improving his “motor”, which would allow him to be one of the most impactful players in the state. While also finding the correct spots and times to showcase his evolving skills (shooting and ball handling).
#12 Ethan Wilkerson Ethan Wilkerson 6'7" | PF Madill | 2024 State OK , 6’7 Power Forward, Silo
After leading Silo to the Class 2A State Tournament, Wilkerson played a very competitive spring and summer schedule with Pro Skills (TX) on Nike’s 16U EYB. His summer ended with productive appearances at one of the highest levels of youth basketball, Nike’s Peach Jam in South Carolina. In those four games he made an impact on the glass with an average of 5.3 boards a game and broke into double figures scoring 12 points in a battle against fellow Oklahoma prospects from Team Griffin. In that game Wilkerson showed a good combination of grit as a rugged post scorer, while also some versatility as a face up driver with good touch. Small town prospects are tough to evaluate due to level of competition and less chances to be seen in person, but the 2024 forward’s combination of strong high school production and national experience with Pro Skills does point to a collegiate future.
