Solomon Garrison Solomon Garrison 5'10" | PG Homestead | 2023 State WI – 2023 – PG – Chapman Basketball Academy
Have seen Garrison play well in crunch time on a few occasions. What I like most, it hasn’t always been during his best games. He’s just been able to rise to the occasion, even if he’s missed a few consecutive shots. Garrison is one of the fastest players in the state with the ball in his hands. The 5-foot-9 lead guard plays with excellent change of pace and keeps defenders guessing with a nasty hesitation game. A high-IQ floor general that can run the show, Garrison is the type of prospect you gladly give the keys to the car.
Austin Herro Austin Herro 6'2" | CG Whitnall | 2023 State WI – 2023 – PG – Team Herro
Think it raised some eyebrows when I put Herro in my top 25 recently. Personally, I think he can still got a lot higher. Cal Poly recently jumped on board with an offer. Have seen how Nike EYBL action can really overwhelm and shrink some really good players. That didn’t happen to Herro in Louisville, even in his return from injury. A smooth, decisive, playmaking guard, Herro can break down a defense and make things happen when he gets into the paint. Eager to see what he does in Kansas City.
Seth Miron Seth Miron 6'4" | SF Kimberly | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SF – Wisconsin Crusaders
Expect Miron to make a jump in the next rankings. The 6-foot-5 wing has really started to come into his own and develop an alpha mentality on the floor. Miron can be a dangerous scorer in isolation. Despite his size, Miron is able to play surprisingly low to the ground and has shake and bake ability on the ball. Think Miron has a lot of value as well as a floor spacer/swingman type. He’s also athletic enough to defend multiple positions and make his team’s lineups very versatile. Wouldn’t be surprised to see D2’s rush in quickly in July. Even some D1’s noticed him during the WIAA/WBCA June Jam last month.
Simeon Murchison Simeon Murchison 6'9" | PF Milwaukee Bay View | 2023 State WI – 2023 – PF – Team Haliburton
Murchison looked really good at Wisconsin’s advanced last week. He’s always been intriguing due to his size (6-9), strength, and athletic ability, but now Murchison is starting to add some skill to his game. He’s not a great shooter, but good enough where defenders have to respect it and vacate the paint. He’s also handling the ball better, able to get coast-to-coast in transition or get to the rim in the halfcourt if there’s a lane open. If all else fails, Murchison is a tough 1-on-1 post defender, rim protector, and plays with a high motor under the basket.
Robert Peters Robert Peters 6'8" | PF West Allis Hale | 2023 State WI – 2023 – PF – 24:UP
Been selling Peters to some low major programs and so far the feedback has been good. Think Peters is really coming along and taking that next step as a prospect. Peters already looks the part at 6-foot-8 and has a well-rounded frame. He’s been a solid interior scorer for the past year-plus and possesses some nifty footwork down on the block. He’s now playing some point forward, bringing the ball up the floor and trying to develop into a mismatch nightmare. Peters can handle and shoot the rock from the perimeter. They’ll even let him work 1-on-1 on an island.
William Whorton William Whorton 6'8" | PF Rufus King | 2023 State WI – 2023 – F – Wisconsin Playground Club
If I’m a low major, maybe even a mid-major, I’m thinking about taking a chance here. It’s hard to find prospects with these types of measurables — 6-9, runs like a deer, explosive leaping ability, and the ability to shut down the paint as a shot blocker. Despite being very raw physically, Whorton plays a lot tougher than he looks and has a little junkyard dog in him. Now that he’s starting to shoot it well from mid and 3-point range, think Whorton is going to push for a top 10 spot in this 2023 class.
Austin Villareal Austin Villareal 6'1" | SG Arrowhead | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SG – The Pro Lane
Villareal had a big month of June and is scoring the ball really well. May not look the part or have ideal measurables, but you can’t argue with the results. The 6-foot-1 guard is shooting the ball at an extremely high level from 3-point range. He’s also been able to mix in drives to the rim. Despite being a little undersized, Villareal has excellent body control and touch, allowing him to finish at top end speed. The Arrowhead product is an instant offense type player that immediately gives his team a spark when he’s on the floor.
