Continue ReadingThe KABC is hosting two tournaments during the live period weekend, in this article I’ll be breaking down the top wings and forwards from Ohio for college programs to watch at the KABC Shootout. This is a live period hosted in Shelbyville, Kentucky from June 17th-19th. Teams from Ohio committed to the event include Cincinnati Hughes, Princeton, Lakota East, Fairfield, Preble Shawnee, Toledo Central Catholic, Hamilton and Huber Heights Wayne.
Brandon Glass Brandon Glass 6'8" | C Cincinnati Aiken | 2024 State OH , 6’8 C Cincinnati Hughes 2024: Glass recently picked up an offer from Manhattan as the 6’8 C has shown potential with his size and potential athletic upside. Glass right now is a project big man, but with his size he can make an impact around the basket at both ends. Glass rebounds the ball well and has some shot-blocking ability from the help-side position. We’ll see if Glass has continued to make strides since I saw him with Queen City Prophets last month.
Dorian Williams Dorian Williams 6'4" | SF Princeton | 2024 State OH , 6’4 SF Princeton 2024: Williams holds multiple Division I offers on the gridiron, but I think he’s also a Division I talent on the hardwood as well. Williams is a tough kid who leaves it all on the floor every time he’s out there. Williams shoots it at a fairly high level off the catch and uses his strength to make winning plays when diving for loose balls and getting rebounds over taller defenders.
Julian Mitchell Julian Mitchell 6'5" | SF Lakota East | 2023 State OH , 6’5 SF Lakota East 2023: Mitchell has been a stock riser for R4L this spring on the Prep Hoops Circuit as his shooting ability combined with his size is intriguing. He’s a player who’s been getting a lot of love from his coaches on both the grassroots and high school levels. I expect small colleges to be intrigued by Mitchell’s development and he could play his way into a scholarship level prospect this summer and a good performance this weekend in Kentucky could be exactly what he needs to continue to build up his stock as a prospect.
Derek Jackson Derek Jackson 6'6" | PF Lakota East | 2024 State OH , 6’6 PF Lakota East 2024: Jackson is the classic stretch-4 big guy that a lot of programs want at the next level. With his ability to space the floor as a shooter and rebound the basketball, Jackson has a simple skill set that’s going to translate at the next level.
Gabe Clemmons Gabe Clemmons 6'10" | C Fairfield | 2025 State OH , 6’8 C Fairfield 2025: Clemmons is one of the more intriguing bigs in the 2025 class due to his size and back to the basket talent. Clemmons didn’t really get any major minutes at the varsity level as a freshman but could see his minutes drastically increase as a sophomore. Bigs are usually slower to develop than guards so I’m being patient with Clemmons as he continues to develop his game and make a bigger impact on both ends. College programs would be smart to get eyes on him early and see his progression over the years.
Mason Shrout Mason Shrout 6'4" | SF Preble Shawnee | 2024 State OH , 6’4 SF Preble Shawnee 2024: Shrout is one of the top scorers in Ohio and after a big spring on the EYBL circuit, he’s ready to lead his hometown Preble Shawnee to new heights in 2022-23. Shrout is a skilled scorer who can hurt you from the triple threat with his shooting ability and patience when attacking the basket. I expect Shrout to be highly recruited at the mid major level and could thrive in a more open and spaced-out system that relies on perimeter shooting.
Juan Cranford Jr, 6’3 SF Huber Heights Wayne 2024: Cranford has drawn rave reviews from multiple outlets due to his play for Midwest Basketball Club Gold 16 U and I’m as excited to watch Cranford as any prospect this weekend. I liked what I saw from Cranford as a Sophomore with his bigger frame and shooting ability. Cranford also uses his strength when attacking the rim and shows poise on the offensive end.
