Expert Analysis
Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the top small-town scorers in the state, Shrout has had an excellent high school career. After scoring 25 PPG as a Sophomore and 23 PPG as a Junior, Shrout is in range to finish his high school career over 2,000 points. Already committed to a Division I program, Shrout has proven he can hang with the best of the best on the grassroots circuit playing for All Ohio Red and Wildcat Select throughout his high school grassroots career.

The top Ohio performer of the day, Shrout was excellent in Preble Shawnee’s come from behind victory in round one and also helped lead them to an elite 8 appearance in the 32 team bracket. A much different evaluation with Shrout for his high school program than on the grassroots circuit, he has to carry the entire offensive load on his back. Able to score without much space, Shrout is a great contested shooter. After knocking down a couple shots, Shrout used his high IQ to make backdoor cuts and find open teammates when trapped. A priority mid major recruit, college coaches were buzzing after seeing Shrout today, a top talent in Ohio’s 2024 class.

One of the more talented scorers in Ohio, Shrout has taken a step with Wildcat Select this spring on the 3SSB circuit. Able to score in tight spaces and an elite shooter, Shrout is capable of going off against pretty much any grassroots team in the country. Another aspect about his game that I love is his competitiveness, not backing down against any competition. Needing to go to the right fit, Shrout recently received an offer from Columbia but has been pursued by a few MAC and other low to mid major schools for over a year now.

One of the more competitive kids in Ohio’s 2024 class, Shrout gives it his all every time I watch him compete. A big-time scorer, Shrout was creating a majority of the offense for Wildcat Select, who were down a few players this weekend. Hitting a deep 3-pointer to start the game against Nova Village and then a few more contested 3-pointers, it was an impressive shooting display from a wing who’s rising his stock on the 3SSB circuit. Shrout also hit a half-court buzzer-beater that gave his team some momentum at the halftime break. As a slasher, Shrout had an impressive finish where he extended with his right hand to avoid the shot blocker. Shrout has a handful of low to mid major offers already with a few programs making him a major priority in their 2024 recruiting efforts.
