Continue ReadingStretch fours/wings are highly valuable in today’s game. Prospects in the 6-foot-7 to 6-foot-10 range have a unique advantage when they can shoot the basketball beyond the perimeter. Furthermore, these individuals open up space in an offensive set and provide an extra element for opponents to defend against.
*For most pieces going forward, I will exclude the Class of 2022, unless they remained unsigned*
Let’s look at some of the best or those with the most potential.
Gavin Aydelotte Gavin Aydelotte 6'11" | C Benjamin | 2023 State FL – Benjamin
2023 Gavin Aydelotte Gavin Aydelotte 6'11" | C Benjamin | 2023 State FL appears to be developing a 3-point shot. It might not be a high volume, but it’s definitely a factor. The 6-foot-10 power forward/center went 11-of-34 (32 percent) from deep as a sophomore and 13-of-42 (31 percent) as a junior. Aydelotte hit two or more 3-pointers in five combined games during both seasons. Considering his 57 percent shooting mark overall, I think he just needs to make defenses aware of his ability to pop out to the outside. Aydelotte will be really difficult to contain given his size and increased athleticism from the perimeter to the rim.
Guilherme Tesch Guilherme Tesch 6'8" | SF North Broward Prep | 2023 FL – North Broward Prep
Few players fit this category better than 2023 Guilherme Tesch Guilherme Tesch 6'8" | SF North Broward Prep | 2023 FL . The 6-foot-8 wing went 23-of-67 (34 percent) from the perimeter as a sophomore and 41-of-109 (38 percent) as a junior. I thought Tesch was very efficient from deep during the first half of North Broward Prep’s season. He has a lot or range while being able to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket. I think he just needs to continue to stay aggressive and be tough when he’s not connecting on one of his 3-pointers. As it stands, Tesch is the only player to return in double-figures for North Broward Prep (16.0 ppg). I think the opportunity is there for him to cement himself as a D-1 prospect from here on out.
Jaylen Carey Jaylen Carey 6'8" | PF Westminster Academy | 2023 State #129 Nation FL – Westminster Academy
2023 Jaylen Carey Jaylen Carey 6'8" | PF Westminster Academy | 2023 State #129 Nation FL has much power around the paint as any player in South Florida. His mass and finesse is a big reason why he shot 57 percent overall from the field. The 6-foot-8 forward also attempted 28 shots (seven makes) from deep. While not a high volume, I think Carey has potential to increase his output moving forward. Any sort of implication that he can shoot from deep will open up his teams offensive set. Besides, stopping his motion at his size from the 3-point line to the basket will be even more difficult to stop.
Tynan Becker Tynan Becker 6'7" | SF Sagemont | 2023 State FL – Sagemont
2023 Tynan Becker Tynan Becker 6'7" | SF Sagemont | 2023 State FL is a versatile offensive prospect. The 6-foot-7 Becker can move like a guard while having the height/length of a small forward/wing. Becker went 52-of-135 (39 percent) from deep. Moreover, he made two or more 3-pointers in 17 games. In fact, Becker only had two contests where he didn’t hit a three at all. He can really fly and get going in a hurry. Becker is kid to watch as he moves forward to his senior season.
Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'6" | SF Norland (FL) | 2024 State #56 Nation FL – Miami Norland
2024 Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'6" | SF Norland (FL) | 2024 State #56 Nation FL is one of the more athletic/versatile players in South Florida. Factor in his height (6’7) and you can understand why he’s considered a 4-star prospect. The 6-foot-7 wing went 14-of-43 (33 percent) from deep as a freshman and 22-of-63 (35 percent) as a sophomore. Allen can also score around the low block and use his athleticism to slash off the corners. Against Columbus (27-2), he scored 27 points while shooting 3-of-7 from deep. Allen recently earned an offer from the University of Missouri.
Cameron Boozer Cameron Boozer 6'9" | PF Columbus | 2025 State #2 Nation FL – Miami Columbus
2025 Cameron Boozer Cameron Boozer 6'9" | PF Columbus | 2025 State #2 Nation FL is one of the best freshman in the country, let alone Florida. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 40 percent (28-of70) from deep. Boozer also shot 64 percent from the field while averaging a double-double. He’s already a tremendous offensive player from all three levels.
Chanon Frye – University School
2023 Chanon Frye is a 6-foot-5 small forward with some wing ability. The U-School prospect averaged 11 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. Moreover, Frye went 33-of-96 (34 percent) from deep. More specifically, I like him as a mid-range shooter. Frye might be a bit underrated when you put him next to players of similar size. He has some game and should be a kid to watch.
