Womack was not the only underclassmen making plays this weekend in the tournament. This article will take a look at five underclassmen who helped their team significantly this past weekend.
2025 Jaren Curtis Jaren Curtis 6'1" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD | 6’0 | Bishop McNamara
Curtis has a breakout season for Bishop McNamara this season and was a huge factor to the success the Mustangs had this year. Curtis can handle the ball and was a reliant scorer this season. Expect to hear more about Curtis as the AAU season starts up soon.
2025 Derek Dixon Derek Dixon 6'4" | SG Gonzaga | 2025 State #153 Nation MD | 6’4 | Gonzaga
Dixon did not get a lot of burn this past weekend for Gonzaga but whenever he is on the court he makes sure to make the most of it. Dixon hit a pivotal three in the corner this past weekend which is something he does best. Dixon will be important for Gonzaga in the coming years.
2025 Christian Gurdak | 6’9 | Paul VI
Gurdak played his best basketball I have seen him play this past weekend for Paul VI. Gurdak made sure his presence was known in the post as he was all over the boards and finishing well under the rim. He was tremendous in tipping the ball out which created a lot of second chance opportunities for his team.
2024 Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5'10" | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA | 5’10 | Paul VI
Hammond comes out of the weekend as the biggest breakout player. I lost track of how many times people were asking me about him because they had never seen or heard of him before. There could be a Dug McDaniel 2.0 in the making because of how similar Hammond plays like McDaniel.
2025 Jaquan Womack | 6’6 | Paul VI
Womack had the play of the weekend as he connected on the game winning layup with .7 seconds left in the championship game on Monday night. Womack looks absolutely nothing like a freshman with his size and did not play like one on Monday night either.
