The season is nearly a month in at this point and some freshmen are already putting up big numbers across the commonwealth. Here’s a look at some of the state’s top freshmen thus far.

[player_tooltip player_id="1130310" first="Malachi" last="Moreno"], Great Crossing - It seems like Moreno is breaking a record every other game for the Warhawks this season. So far he's set and then broken the record for rebounds then did the same for the blocked shots record. He's also gotten the first triple double in school history thus far.

[player_tooltip player_id="1110323" first="Vince" last="Dawson"], Great Crossing - Another key piece of the very young Great Crossing core, Dawson is averaging 16 points per game on 54% shooting. Vince is an efficient scorer with a more old school game as he is a deadly midrange shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1111948" first="Austin" last="Sperry"], Breathitt County - Sperry is one of the best pure scorers in the class and is capable of scoring at the rim or making jumpers from deep. Austin has been a reliable free throw shooter this year but hasn't started connecting on 3s like he usually does. Once he does, you could see him averaging 20+ per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1149267" first="Cayden" last="Reed"], Bracken County - The younger half of the dangerous Reed brothers, Cayden plays the point and has shown he can score the ball or facilitate at a high level. He's scoring the ball at over 20 points per game on 53% from the field despite some early season struggles from three. Once he gets that straightened out, Reed will be even more deadly.

[player_tooltip player_id="1202168" first="Greg" last="Brooks"], Cordia - Brooks was quietly one of the top scorers in the state last season and has picked up where he left off as an 8th grader. He's only a few made free throws away from being in the prestigious 50-40-90 club for shooting.

[player_tooltip player_id="1229152" first="Eli" last="Finley"], Calloway County - A slashing point guard, Finley has been trusted with the ball early and often this season for the Lakers and he's leading them in scoring and doing a good job of distributing to teammates off the drive and kick.

[player_tooltip player_id="1229151" first="Ty" last="Price"], South Warren - Price has shown himself to be a high level shooter and his performance this season backs it up. He has shown he has elite range on his jumper in the catch and shoot and is improving at finishing through contact at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1123543" first="Hayden" last="Blakeman"], Green County - Hayden is averaging over 20 points per contest and doing it entirely off of drives, the midrange and converting at the free throw line. Once his three point shot starts falling, he should see the lane open up even more for him.

[player_tooltip player_id="1130315" first="Sawyer" last="Thompson"], Pineville - One of the most "do it all" players in the 25 class, Thompson has put the Pineville offense on his back and carried them more than once already this season. Sawyer is a shifty ball handler capable of bullying opposing defenders and finishing at the rim.
