I was on hand for the live action.
Here are the best performances from Saturday.
AJ Roseman, Team Future 2022: Roseman had 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win over the Riptide Ballers. The rising senior was impressive because of how well he ran the offense. Roseman was moving the basketball, communicating with his teammates and taking shot opportunities each time the defense was caught sleeping.
Luke Shoemaker Luke Shoemaker 6'6" | SF MHEA | 2022 State TN , Life Changers 2022: The 6-foot-6 forward made things look easy against Men of Distinction Elite 2022. He had 17 points in his team’s win. Shoemaker’s group had the height advantage, so Shoemaker didn’t settle for a lot of outside jump shots. He got into the paint and scored over the top of his defender.
TJ Fletcher, EENG Hoopers 2022: The 6-0 guard had 11 points in his team’s 61-41 win over the SEMO Mavericks 2022. Fletcher thrives in transition. It all starts on the defensive end for Fletcher. If he’s disruptive, turnovers are likely to happen and heading the other way will probably lead to an easy dunk or layup.
Elijah Hollins, EENG Hoopers 2022: Hollins led his team with 14 points against the SEMO Mavericks 2022. Hollins did his job when he was at the point guard spot. He kept the offense going 100 miles per hour. Hollins likes to play fast and push the basketball up the floor. It kept the opposing team on its heels for most of the team. Hollins didn’t let up.
Keanan Peoples, Jackson Blue Devils Elite 2022: Peoples had 14 points in his team’s win over Victory Ministry 2022. Peoples is a problem because of his athleticism, upper body strength and ability to make shots from 3. He can take his defender off the dribble, which is a plus when the outside shot isn’t falling.
Jay Young, STARS Basketball-Select 2023: Young is a guard that has poise and patience. He doesn’t allow his defender to speed him up. Young knows when to make the right pass and will slash to the lane when the opportunity is there. He’s also effective offensively when his jumper from 17-feet out is falling.
Ethan Myers, STARS Basketball-Select 2023: Myers was one of the best shooters on the court Saturday. He’s not afraid to shoot the basketball. Myers shoots with confidence. The flick of the wrist and the spreading of the fingers are close to perfect.
Brett Matheisen, Top 1 2023: Matheisen put on a shooting clinic in his team’s loss to Prime time 2023. He had 19 points and had his team in position to get the win. Matheisen is a small guard, roughly 5-8, but he plays bigger than his size. Matheisen did his best Allen Iverson impersonation as he was wiggling through bigger defenders for uncontested shots.
Jackson Reynolds, Top 1 2023: Reynolds led his team in scoring with 20 points. Reynolds is much bigger than Matheisen, at 6-0, so he had an easier time getting shots to fall over his defender. His penetration allowed his teammates to get great looks at the basket. Reynolds couldn’t be left open. Sagging off would have been a big mistake.
Jayden Logan, Life Changers 2024: Logan didn’t fill the stat sheet up, but he showed flashes of being a solid player down the road. Logan’s ability to get into the middle of a defense is a plus. What’s more impressive was how alert he was of his teammates on the floor. Logan made every kick out on time.
