Archer Van Sickle – Regis
Van Sickle was one of the best youngsters on the day as he led his team in every way. He was uber-confident with the ball in his hands and showed that he could be a lead guard that can also let it fly. Van Sickle was the team’s best ball-handler and showed some promise in the game as a player that plays above his age. He played with confidence and poise as the lead guard and as great of a shooter as he was, he was also bringing the ball up. One of his highlight plays was when he scored in bunches, and then when the defense attempted to key-in on him, he started to pass to the open man. He had a sequence when he had a steal and finish for a dump off and then came right down for a dribble breakdown dump off for a teammate for a dunk. With all of the attention on him and his shooting, being able to free up his teammates also helps his team. He played well and is going to be fun to follow moving forward.
Gus Yalden – Asheville School
Yalden continues to dominate as the 2023 prospect is starting to make national news, and the offers are starting to come in. What separates him is his high IQ, which allows the game to come easy. Yalden already has the size to take over down low, but the versatile forwards ability to step out and confidently shoot the ball as well makes him even more of a weapon. Yalden banged inside and was a monster on the boards. He has plenty of moves down low and made the opposing team pay as he scored with ease. Yalden has soft touch around the rim, uses his body, and also showed that he could defend multiple positions as well.
Cole Records Cole Records 6'3" | SF Regis Jesuit | 2023 State CO – Regis
Records strung together a couple of good plays in a row, and what stands out is a high IQ. He has a great understanding of the game and knows where to be on the floor. He spaces the floor well, knows when to cut and finds gaps in the defense for open shots. He has good size as a 6’3 guard that has an inside out game and proved himself as a two-way prospect. He had a spin move finish that softened up the defense, and he also grabbed boards and went right up for a couple of clean up baskets.
Assane Diop Assane Diop 6'10" | PF Belleview Christian | 2023 State #107 Nation CO – Belleview Christian
Diop is typically the player that is making things happen on offense the whole time. The 6’10 do-it-all forward can play down on the post and can also get out on the wing, and that creates quite the dilemma for opposing teams. As raw of a player that he is offensively, things are starting to come together, but in his showing on Day 2, it wasn’t the offense that stood out for me, it was the defense. In a tourney that had buddy ball happening where players do not want to attack their friends, Diop made it a point to defend a top player in the entire country and hold his own. He made Baye have to make quick decisions, shoot over the top of him and work extremely hard for baskets, which he does not typically have to do. Fall was able to score on him at times, but his willingness to defend while also showcasing his versatility with the passing and ballhandling at that size is a beauty to see. Another solid day for him, which led to another win for his team.
