our latest update. Prep Hoops has released its latest Colorado class of 2022 rankings update based on the 2019-20 season. The 2022 class is an interesting one as we had a significant shakeup in the Top-5 as well as plenty of movement throughout the rest of the rankings while adding prospects as well. Here, we focus on some of the classes’ most versatile guards.
Henry Gamble Henry Gamble 6'1" | CG Mountain Vista | 2022 State CO – Mountain Vista
Henry Gamble Henry Gamble 6'1" | CG Mountain Vista | 2022 State CO was an underclassman for a talented Mountain Vista team, but he made sure to make his impact felt with his hard work and relentless motor. The sophomore guard brought a spark for the Golden Eagles off of the bench and starred in his role as a playmaking guard that does not turn down many shots and plays with supreme confidence. This year he got his feet wet as a sophomore but played a role on varsity even having a breakout game where he went off for a career-high 25 points. With a significant portion of Mountain Vista’s offense graduating, next year, he steps into the spotlight as an aggressive scorer that takes care of the ball and creates mismatches. Gamble is a player to watch and is the No. 25 player in the class.
Luke Williams Luke Williams 5'9" | CG Dsst Green Valley | 2022 State CO – DSST: Green Valley
Point guard Luke Williams Luke Williams 5'9" | CG Dsst Green Valley | 2022 State CO was the starting guard and second-leading scorer on an 18-6 team that opened some eyes this year. The speedy guard can put the ball in the basket and did plenty of it this season. In his sophomore campaign, Williams put up 15 points a game with scoring explosions at various times like his 34 points against Hutchinson or 21 points against Ridgeview Academy. Williams attacks opposing guards in iso situations as well as reads the defense and makes the right play in pick and roll. He also plays off of the ball and finds gaps in the defense to finish at the rim. He also was a two-way guard that got others involved as he put up 3.4 assists a game, and his 2.5 steals a game turned into scoring opportunities. Williams is one of the better scorers in the class and will be the player that the team relies on next season.
Dominic Marrujo Dominic Marrujo 5'9" | PG Prairie View | 2022 State CO – Prairie View
Prairie View is a team that should have a bounce-back season in the upcoming year as they had a young bunch this season that will be a year wiser. Their best player was small guard Dominic Marrujo Dominic Marrujo 5'9" | PG Prairie View | 2022 State CO , who lit teams up. He is a volume shooter and tough shot maker that lets it fly. He knocks down the 3-pointer, has a nice floater, and is a flashy passer that keeps the defense at bay. This season he had games where he went off and showed that he could carry the team to victory like a 28 point outing in a 72-71 win versus Thornton. Scoring and getting teammates involved will have to be his mission next season as Prairie View should be a team to watch if everything aligns perfectly. Only on his back will they succeed.
Tabor Robinson – Horizon
Horizon was a fun bunch and one of the younger teams in the state to make the playoffs. People know about the other young and talented players on the team, but one that jumped onto our radars and made his presence felt. Robinson is a quick and robust guard that is a downhill runner. When he gets a head of steam, he is tough to slow down as he can break a defender down and finish at the rim. He is dangerous in the open court and tough to slow down in 1-on-1 situations. He’s also an in your face defender that plays hard in every game and gives the team a scoring option on and off of the ball. Robinson put up 7.8 points a game and also rebounded from the guard spot. He is new to the list but the No.41 player in the class.
