Continue ReadingWith the 2019-20 high school basketball season officially over, we finally shift over our focus to our latest update. Prep Hoops has released its latest Colorado class of 2022 rankings update based on the 2019-20 season. The 2022 class is an interesting one as we had a significant shakeup in the Top-5 as well as plenty of movement throughout the rest of the rankings while adding prospects as well. We have broken down plenty of positions and covered plenty of prospects, but none where we talked about new additions to a school or team. Here we speak about prospects that are in a new environment from the transfer rule or did not get to showcase how good they were due to injury.
Micah Leslie Micah Leslie 6'5" | PF Mullen | 2022 State CO – Mullen
Leslie is a player we saw as a freshman and knew that he was going to be a standout that dominated teams for the next couple f seasons. Well, he did standout and gave opposing teams a fit; just this year, it was just on JV. Leslie made the switch from Valor Christian and transferred over to Mullen, where he was able to put up 19 points a game. Next season he will bring over his two-way capabilities alongside a young and talented Mullen team that needs to bounce-back anyway, and he brings in an inside-out presence. Leslie has good size at 6’5 and is a quality athlete that can put it on the deck and use his slashing abilities to get to the rim. He catches passes on the move, and it active on the defensive end with big-time rebounding potential as well. Leslie will be a welcomed addition to the Mustangs this season, and for now, is the No. 19 player in the class with room to rise if it all comes into fruition.
Jonathan Potts Jonathan Potts 6'2" | CG Smoky Hill | 2022 State CO – Smoky Hill
Potts is a player that jumped onto our radars this summer with his play as an ultimate competitor that leaves it all out on the floor. This summer, he also suffered a season-ending injury, which was unfortunate because I feel as if he could’ve helped Smoky Hill at times. Potts is a hard-nosed defender that does not back down and can defend multiple positions. He also gets inside the teeth of the defense and attacks the paint with good strength and size with body control. Next season I see Potts being a defensive stopper that also makes plays for others as he is comfortable with the ball in his hands. He will have plenty to prove and automatically be a target as he comes back into the best conference in the state with high expectations next season.
Kameron Goodrich Kameron Goodrich 6'2" | CG Broomfield | 2022 CO – Broomfield
Goodrich is a player that we had seen a few times at showcases and events and were high on when he was at Holy Family. Now he makes the switch over to Broomfield and steps into a great situation that he will be able to prove himself. Broomfield’s best two players graduate this season, so the young guys will have a chance to step up, and I expect Goodrich to emerge from that group. Goodrich is a player that continually works on his game, and you can see it with his attention to detail. He is an excellent ball-handler that can shoot the ball exceptionally well, but his best attribute is getting others involved and a deadly floater. Goodrich finishes well around the rim and has excellent court awareness. He is starting to hit a growth spurt, so if he can keep all of the guard skills while getting some size with him, he should be a player that certainly rises. Big season for him at Broomfield, and hopefully, he has a summer to turn more heads and gather some momentum. He is the No. 48 player in the class for now.
Zach Keller Zach Keller 6'9" | PF ThunderRidge | 2022 State #81 Nation CO – ThunderRidge
Keller is a player that not many know about, but are in for a pleasant surprise this upcoming year as he can truly go. He only played in eight games for the Grizzlies but showed his potential in those games with more on the way. Keller is a 6’7 forward with size that is skilled both on the post and can extend the floor as well. Keller is an efficient post scorer that seals, can work in pick/roll situations, and catches dump passes. Keller has the perfect combination of size and coordination and is a mobile big man that breaks the traditional back to the basket and overpower you players that you see at that size. He is a player that I think will crack the Top-5 by seasons end but is No.11 for now, and it is simply off of potential and ceiling alone.
Lamarius Royston Lamarius Royston 6'6" | PF Overland | 2022 CO – Overland
Royston is a traditional big man that makes the switch over from Smoky Hill to Overland and has some big shoes to fill as Overland is a team known for their stellar bigs. Royston is a strong big man that uses brute force and strength to get the advantage. He is not easily moved on the block, rebounds at a high level, and also is a lockdown defender that alters shots at the rim. Royston moves well for his size and goes straight up with rebounds. Royston sets hard screens and rolls hard, which creates gravity for either a dump-off or finish for himself or a teammate. Royston is a hustle player that you do not have to run plays for as his motor keeps him going, and he is scrappy, so he creates for himself. Royston is the No. 40 player in the class and one of the best bigs as well. He will have plenty to prove but will be given an opportunity to make a difference. It is up to him to make the best of it.
