Continue ReadingThis game was expected to be a battle and it did not disappoint in the slightest. From the start of the game to the score-tying shot within the final minute, the entire match was entertaining. At the end of the contest, the scoreboard displayed Skyline’s triumph over Erie 48-45. There were quite a few standout players in this match that deserve to be highlighted, here are some of the takeaways from Saturday’s matchup:
Gage Robertson
Gage Robertson – 6’0” Guard – 2020
Gage was absolutely outstanding for Skyline in this game. He put up a season-high of 24 points while shooting 63% from the field and 67% from the free-throw line. Every movement that Robertson made was explosive and with a purpose. He made sure that his presence was felt at the perimeter on offense as well as defense. He recorded two steals and five rebounds to go along with his performance. His motor seemed impossible to match by almost anyone on the court, making Gage Robertson the standout player of the night.
Myles MeskersMyles Meskers – 5’8” Guard – 2020
Myles took on a lot of extra work for the Erie Tigers in this match. He tied his season-high point total with 16, his last score being the shot that tied the game at 45 points within the final seconds. Myles took a total of nine shots from the field, hitting on six of them which put him at 67% from the field. One of the fastest players on the court, it was no surprise to see that he was almost unstoppable once he found a crease leading to the rim. Myles’ usual role as pace-pusher required the addition of his scoring abilities. On defense, he is fast and quick enough to defend the top arch of the perimeter area, especially at each elbow.
Samuel AboytesSamuel Aboytes – 6’2” Forward – 2021
Basketball is a team sport and Samuel was an outstanding team player for Skyline in this game. Finishing with seven points (3 for 3 from the field), four assists, and three rebounds show that he is able to do a little bit of everything. What the stats do not show, however, is how well of a post defender he is. Samuel has great size and strength that goes along perfectly with his determined motor. He uses his strength to box out and maintain his leverage. He also plays with a fearless and selfless attitude. Samuel is a defensive standout who rarely misses shots.
Austin RobinsonAustin Robinson – 6’5” Forward/Center – 2020
The first thing that may come to mind when seeing Austin for the first time is football lineman. After watching him move on the court, it becomes obvious that he is actually a very athletic big. Austin finished the night second in scoring on his team with nine points, but he is currently the leading scorer on his team with 163 total points on the season. Austin is the type of big who plays with the mentality of a small forward or shooting guard when he is pulling up from the perimeter. When in the post, his game switches to a dominant power player. To put how dangerous Austin is as a scoring into perspective, this was one of just three games where he scored under double digits.
Kayan HargraveKayan Hargrave – 6’3” Forward – 2022
Kayan is a young player who shines brightest as a well-rounded contributor for the Tigers. He finished the game with seven points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks. His height and athleticism are what make him so successful when it comes to securing boards. Kayan has a very selfless demeanor which shows on the stat sheet just as much as it shows on the court.
Ladorian Havard
Ladorian Havard – 6’3” Forward – 2020
Ladorian is Erie’s more vocal leader on the squad. He is another player who tends to shine the most on defense from within the post. He finished the night with seven rebounds which is about three over his average. He had a crowd-hyping block which is not an uncommon occurrence for him. He was held to right around half of his scoring average, finishing the night with only five points. Expect nothing less than a bounce-back mentality from this usual standout.
