Here is a look at the final day standouts list (Part 1).
Tai’Reon Joseph (Scotlandville)
It was quite a day for 2020 6’4″ guard Tai’Reon Joseph. In the fifth place game, he totaled 29 points and 11 rebounds. In the first half alone, Joseph had 21 of his team’s 32 points. He is a hard nosed finisher and someone who puts his body on the line. Late in the game, his leg bent awkwardly and it appeared he was hurt but he came back and finished the job for his team in the victory. A Division I program would love his aggressiveness and playmaking ability.
RJ Davis & Adrian Griffin Jr. (Archbishop Stepinac)
All week long, we saw two blue blood commits score in steady doses. 2020 6’1″ guard RJ Davis (UNC commit) kept his team hanging around in this one with 32 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field. He is a highly skilled guard who can do just about anything on the attack with his ballhandling ability. As for 2021 6’7″ forward Adrian Griffin Jr. (Duke commit), he finished with 17 points and was hitting at a high clip but battled and pushed the tempo often.
Amaire Perkins & Ladarron Cleveland (Seminole)
Seminole was speedy, energetic and knocking down shots. The Seminoles were led by a pair of 2020 6′ guards in Amaire Perkins and Ladarron Cleveland. Perkins led his side with 22 points and was efficient hitting 8-of-13 from the field. He’s an active player who can handle the rock and dish it out with the best of them. His counterpart on the day was Cleveland with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field which included a one-handed slam over a defender in the second half. I love his leadership and overall calmness in this offense.
Nnanna Njoku & Corey Perkins (Sanford)
Sanford pulled out the victory in the consolation championship in the early afternoon. 2020 6’2″ guard Corey Perkins and 2021 6’9″ forward Nnanna Njoku both tallied 16 points against Vashon. Perkins has been solid all week long, making tough jumpers in transition and pushing the tempo. He shot 5-of-11 from the field. As for Njoku, he was all over the paint and despite fouling out in the closing minutes, his toughness was on display all game long. 2020 6’7″ forward Jyare Davis had a second straight nice performance with 13 points and 10 rebounds, making all eight of his free throw attempts.
Nicholas Kern & Kobe Clark (Vashon)
Vashon never gave up late in its final game at the City of Palms. 2021 6’6″ guard Nicholas Kern was active all week long giving the Wolverines a lot of life. He had a game-high 23 points and made some important lay-ins at the end of the game. He missed some opportunities down the stretch, especially from the free throw line but he is a prospect to monitor in Missouri. Clark has been the guy for Vashon all week long, grabbing boards, dishing out passes and getting to the rim. He scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds. 2020 6’8 Kentucky commit Cam’ron Fletcher helped the cause with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyler Powell (Marshall County)
With top piece 2021 guard Zion Harmon not in uniform, 2020 6’2″ guard Tyler Powell carried the way for Marshall County in the morning tilt with Riverview. Signed to play golf at Murray State, he scored a team-best 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. A nice finisher and a good shooter, Powell makes for one of the most intriguing stories in a while as a two-sport prospect in basketball and golf, which is basically unheard of these days. Other notable scorers for Marshall County were 2020 6’6″ forward Tyler Stokes (18 points) and 2021 5’10” guard Jay Nimmo (13 points).
