Here is a look at part two of the Saturday standouts list.
Scottie Barnes (Montverde)
It was a fun night for Montverde who took down the reigning champion McEachern Indians. 2020 6’8″ FSU commit Scottie Barnes was beyond active on both ends once again with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. He is one of the best two-way players here and he gets into it defensively and loves to be vocal.
—Other top scorers for Montverde were 2022 6’8″ F Caleb Houstan (14 points), 2020 6’5″ Arkansas commit Moses Moody (14 points), 2020 6’4″ Michigan commit (14 points), 2020 6’10” North Carolina commit Day’Ron Sharpe (11 points), 2020 6’7″ Oklahoma State commit Cade Cunningham (11 points) and 2021 6’4″ guard Langston Love (10 points). This is the deepest Montverde teams in a few years.
Terrance Williams (Gonzaga)
It was a big night for 2020 6’7″ forward Terrance Williams. He was active from the jump, bruising defenders and leading by example with a 29-point effort in a loss to IMG. He shot 11-of-16 from the field and snatched eight rebounds on the night. The recent Georgetown de-commit is a big body who is college ready and a hard-working big guy.
Jaden Springer & Matthew Murrell (IMG)
Two nights in a row, 2020 6’4″ Tennessee commit Jaden Springer was really aggressive and it worked for IMG. He had 22 points, six boards and five assists. Most impressively, he was 13-of-14 from the free throw line where he lived basically the entire second half. Springer loves to attack and is stronger than ever in his upper body and it is paying dividends. 2020 6’3″ Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell was really good in this one, hitting 4-of-8 shots for 13 points. He connected on some important 3’s late that put the game away.
—Other double digit scorers for IMG were 2021 6’11” forward Moussa Diabate (12 points), 2022 6’10” forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (12 points) and 2022 6’6″ guard Jarace Walker (11 points).
Malik Reneau (Mater Academy)
In the City of Palms Sunshine State Series game, 2022 6’7″ forward Malik Reneau was a force inside. He scored 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field. His length and elusiveness are fun to watch. He is a wing who plays the five role and can battle with just any of the Florida high school bigs. Reneau told me after the game that Miami, FIU and Oklahoma State have offered with UCF keeping close tabs with interest. This kid has a high ceiling. Another note from Mater was the performance of 2023 5’7″ guard Michael Bradley had 21 points on 7-of-19 shooting (all 3’s).
Aaron Jones (Evangelical Christian)
For Evangelical Christian, 2021 6’7″ forward Aaron Jones is more aggressive every time I see him and he took on the challenge that Mater’s defense flaunted. Jones was really good all game long, shooting 11-of-19 from the field to finish with 27 points. Jones is a fine athlete who is determined and filled with smarts. When he gets stronger and a more reliable handle, he’ll make for a dangerous Division I/Division II prospect.
Marcellus Brigham & Kennedy Chandler (Briarcrest Christian)
For Briarcrest Christian, the Saints held on behind nice games from 2021 6’1″ guard Kennedy Chandler (17 points) and 2020 6’6″ forward Marcellus Brigham (18 points). Chandler was crafty with the ball and has the speed to hurt defenses as he did today. Brigham is a long body who has been solid all week long with his smart shot selection and ability to get in the paint. Both are essential to this team’s success.
Dudley Blackwell & Lamont Evans (Blanche Ely)
A pair of double digit scorers for Blanche Ely were 2020 6’5″ guard Dudley Blackwell had 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting along with eight rebounds and five assists and 2020 5’11” guard Lamont Evans (12 points). Blackwell is going to be instrumental to the Blanche Ely cause as the team continues to battle night in and night out. Evans is a good outside shooter.
