Coming off a successful summer of AAU and a big time performance at our PH Top 250 Combine in August, Stepp has a lot of momentum leading into the season. Dee plays with a lot of swagger in his game and doesn’t lack any confidence. He told me, ” I can do everything on the floor. I play both ends of the court and I can play against and stop anyone in the country.” He identified his strengths on the floor as his on ball defense and his midrange game but added that his three point shot continues to improve as he becomes a more complete offensive player.
Stepp had a big summer of 16u AAU with Charlotte Court, including key wins and a nice tournament run at multiple events in front of college coaches. DeAjuan said, “I had a great AAU season. I’ve picked up college interest from Miami of Ohio, Morehead State and Georgetown College.” Heading into his Junior year, Dee is going to be the main man for West Jessamine after playing alongside Dalton Bruner the last 3 years (Stepp played varsity as an 8th grader). A season ago, the 6’4 guard averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and could be a 20/10 player this season. When I asked him what his goals are for the season ahead, DeAjuan told me that he wants “to out play everyone on the court, get my team to Rupp Arena and set myself up to be a Mr. Basketball candidate as a Senior.”
With a month until the season starts, if DeAjuan Stepp can perform all season like he did at the PH Top 250 Expo, he’s going to move up in our class rankings and start to draw the attention of more and more college coaches. One coach compared Stepp to a “bigger Taveion Hollingsworth” and if Dee puts up that type of season this year, his recruitment should explode over the next 12 months.
