AAU Weekend Recap
This past weekend saw the start of AAU season for many teams. Several of Kentucky’s best programs competed in Lexington at KBC’s The Journey while others played in Cincinnati at the Bearcat Classic and a couple of teams played at the Louisville Spring Invitational. Here’s a recap of all the results we were sent or could find.
KBC’s The Journey:
Louisville Prospects: The 16u Prospects suffered double digit losses to Team Thad, M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs and Team Manimal but they did have a 30 point win over Charlotte Court in bracket play. The 17u Prospects had two big wins in pool play before falling to the 2021 Georgia Stars in bracket play. The Stars went on to win the tournament.
Cky Magic: The Magic’s main team had a good showing. They lost to the Georgia Stars by 2 and Manimal Elite by 3 but had a win over Bluegrass Showtime. They also lost a tough one to the ITPS Wildcats. Their secondary team lost by double figures to Manimal Elite and M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs before bouncing back to beat the Louisville Rockets and BG Sonics to win the Gold Bracket championship.
M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs – The 15u Mustangs went 1-2 with a win over the Louisville Magic before losing two in a row. The last coming in the opening round of the gold bracket. The 16u Mustangs went 2-2 overall with wins over the Louisville Prospects and I-40 Runners and losses to Team Thad and to Manimal Elite in the 16u championship game. 17u Mustangs went 1-2 with losses to Team Thad and IAm3rd Ice and a win over Cky Magic – Sparks.
Louisville Magic – The only team from the Magic in Lexington this weekend was their 15u and they won the 15u championship after a loss in pool play. They beat D1 in pool play then Kentucky Thorobreds and Manimal Elite in bracket play.
D1 – A 15u team composed mainly of 12th region players, D1 beat M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs and lost to the Louisville Magic before falling to the ITPS Wildcats in bracket play.
Manimal Elite – 15u Manimal Elite beat Team Thad and First Step Academy in pool play before beating Kentucky Future Elite and eventually losing the 15u Championship to the Magic. 16u Manimal Elite went 4-0 to win the 16u Championship. 17u Manimal went 2-0 in pool play, lost a showcase game against Team Thad and then lost to the 16u Georgia Stars in the Championship game.
Iam3rd Ice – They combined their two teams for the weekend and went 1-1 in pool play before beating Manimal Elite-Eky in championship bracket play then lost to ITPS Wildcats.
Bearcat Classic:
The 17u Kentucky Defenders went 1-1 in pool play then won the Gold Bracket Championship on Sunday. 16u Kentucky Defenders went 1-1 in pool play then advanced all the way to the gold championship on Sunday before losing the title game. 15u Defenders split in pool play and then lost in the gold championship bracket opener.
The Ville 2020 went 2-0 in pool play then fell in the opening round of the gold bracket on Sunday.
West Kentucky Elite went 0-3 on the weekend with a forfeit loss in the tournament on Sunday. Their 16u lost both pool games before winning a game in the South championship. 15u went 0-2 in pool play
Kentucky Select went 0-3 on the weekend with a loss in the tournament on Sunday. Their 16u split their pool games at 1-1 but ended up winning the Silver South championship. Their 15u team split pool play at 1-1 and fell in the first game of the tournament.
Louisville Magic 16u won their pool and advanced to the Championship finals before losing the title game.
Quinns Anvils out of Louisville won the 14u Gold bracket championship
Louisville Spring Invitational:
The Louisville Legends 17u went undefeated on the weekend and won the championship of the event. The 15u Legends went 1-1 in pool play and eventually lost the championship game.
Kentucky Ambition 17u went 0-3 on the weekend. Their 16u went 1-2 after splitting in pool play and losing the opener of bracket play. Their 15u went 0-3 on the weekend also.
Team Stamina 14u and 15u went undefeated and won both the championships.
