With the home stretch of the regular season on the horizon, let’s take a look at the 16th- through 20th-leading steals men in Colorado’s Class 4A.
16. Derik Gutierrez, 6-0, SF/G, Alameda, 2019, 2.7 spg
Alameda might not be cracking any top-10 rankings but the Pirates (14-4) are quietly having a great season. Gutierrez has been a major piece of the puzzle, helping to anchor the team’s efforts at the defensive end while remaining one of four players scoring in double figures for Alameda.
17. Noah Baca, 6-2, PG/SG, Lewis-Palmer, 2019, 2.6 spg
Lewis-Palmer (19-0) is the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A and appears to be on a collision course with No. 2-ranked defending state champion Longmont, which is also unbeaten. The Rangers have been demolishing the competition, as they should be with the number of weapons they have. Baca is the team’s fourth-leading scorer at 9.1 points a night but, really, he’s a do-it-all type and also averages 3.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 steals.
18. Bryce McKee, 5-9, G, Coronado, 2019, 2.6 spg
Here’s another great example of a do-it-all guy. McKee scores 11.3 points a night, dishes out 6.2 assists and gets his hands on 2.6 steals. Perhaps more impressively, he averages 5.6 rebounds a game despite being listed at just 5-foot-9.
19. Micah Lamberth, 6-3, G, The Classical Academy, 2020, 2.6 spg
Lamberth has really come into his own as a junior and is, you guessed it, yet another player who has a varied skill set that he utilizes to impact games in a number of ways. Through 18 games, he averages 12.3 points, 4.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals.
20. Kevin Mulligan, 6-0, G, Golden, 2020, 2.6 spg
The Demons graduated a ton of talent at the end of last school year but Mulligan has been one of the up-and-comers who have done their best to fill in the holes. He’s averaging 9.0 points, 2.4 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals a night.
