With conference play underway, let’s take a look at the leading rebounders in Colorado’s Class 5A and what else these guys are bringing to the table.
Kaleb Atherly, 6-4, P, Aurora Central, 2019, 12.8 rpg
Bringing down over a dozen rebounds a game, Atherly is 5A’s current leader in that statistical category. Remarkably, his 154-board total features an even 77-77 split between offensive and defensive rebounds. Also averaging 14.8 points a night, Atherly has seven double-doubles in 12 games and has grabbed 20 or more boards three times.
Lucas Moerman, 6-10, C/F, Doherty, 2020, 12.5 rpg
Also with three 20-rebound games to his credit, Moerman is the second of only four players in 5A who are averaging over a dozen rebounds per game. Averaging 11.2 points and blocking 3.1 shots a night, Moerman is the 12th-ranked junior in Prep Hoops Colorado’s rankings and should only dominate more as he continues to fill out his 6-foot-10, 200-pound frame. Keep an eye on this guy.
Mike Poux, 6-8, F/C, Castle View, 2019, 12.3 rpg
Blocking 3.8 shots per game, Poux has an undeniable presence in the paint. The 6-foot-8 Sabercats senior isn’t just an enforcer this winter. He’s also contributing offensively to the tune of 7.2 points and 2.2 assists a game. Poux is also shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, albeit on a limited 8-for-16 basis.
Darien Meyers, 6-3, SF, Palmer, 2019, 12.2 rpg
This guy is ranked No. 36 in Prep Hoops Colorado’s senior-class rankings, and is already proving that he might be deserving of a higher slot. Not only is he rebounding at a 12.2 per-game clip, Meyers is among Class 5A’s top scorers with an average of 19.2 points. Then there’s his 2.8 assists and 2.5 blocks a night, which further support just how good Meyers has been through 12 games this winter.
Quincey Jewett, 6-5, P, Rangeview, 2019, 16.5 ppg
Averaging a double-double, Jewett has made an incredible jump from his junior year and is shining in his final prep campaign. His 11.9 rebounds and 16.6 points per game are a primary reason the Raiders are 12-2 on the season. His 2.3 blocks and 1.5 steals a night aren’t hurting his team’s cause, either.
