Thanks-“Giving” Special: A Look at Kentucky’s Top 2018 PG’s
With the Thanksgiving holiday arriving tomorrow and families traveling throughout the rest of the week to chow down (and talk high school hoops in the Bluegrass), Prep Hoops Kentucky conveniently takes a look at the guys who don’t care to “give” a little and help their teammates “eat”. Let’s take a look at Kentucky’s top point guards:
2018’s Top Point Guards
Andrew Taylor, Corbin High School (2018)
The Furman commit can do it all. On his high school team, Taylor averaged almost 30 points per game last season (as well as 12 rebounds) and doesn’t necessarily need to dish out a whole lot of assists to help his team win, but he can. His ability to share the rock was on display this summer while playing alongside a host of other D-I prospects with the Louisville Magic on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit.
Adam Kunkel, Copper High School (2018)
Belmont will be getting a well rounded guard in Adam Kunkel and much like Taylor he can do a number of different things to be effective. He shared the ball with now-graduated Sean McNeil last season and will be relied on to do more for Copper to compete in the 9th Region. Kunkel showed an ability to be the floor general this summer while playing on the Adidas Gauntlet with Romeo Langford and Twenty Two Vision. Kunkel averaged
Anthony Wales, Fern Creek High School (2018)
Wales, a Samford commit, led the Tigers to a trip to the state tournament and finished as semifinalists last season. This year Fern Creek has yet another opportunity to make a run through their region and repeat some magic from last year. Wales will have to pick up some of the load left by Wichita State commit, forward Chance Moore (Beckley Prep).
Cooper Robb, Scott County High School (2018)
The surprise of the summer. Robb was thought to have been a small college prospect, or on his way to earning more college football interest. Fast forward through August and Robb had committed to D-I UNC Charlotte. Robb had a fantastic showing at a Phenom Hoops Report event that caught the eye of the Charlotte coaching staff. In one game he dished out 15 assists, in another he scored 11 points, dished out 11 assists, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Cooper returns to a Scott County team that has the makings of a state championship team.
Cobe Penny, Anderson County High School (2018)
Penny is a full back playing the point guard position. Hard to stop down hill and almost makes you have to collapse with help to stop him, which leads to open opportunities for his teammates. Penny has committed to play at Bellarmine and also averaged 23 points and 7 rebounds last season.
Eric Boone, Bryan Station High School (2018)
Boone, alongside back-court teammate Terrence Clayton-Murphy, will look to help make Bryan Station a contender among the Lexington schools. Boone gained valuable experience playing with the Louisville Magic this summer.
Solomon Mathis, Kentucky Country Day (2018)
Mathis has received some interest from Army-West Point, NYU (D-III), Kenyon (D-III), and Kentucky Wesleyan. Mathis can control the offense as well as knock down shots on just about anyone with his quick release.
Brennan Hall, Newport Central Catholic (2018)
Hall has an offer from Our Lady of the Lake University, TX (NAIA) and interest from Alderson Broaddus (D-II). Hall played AAU ball with Cobe Penny and the LEX Future this summer.
