Prospect Spotlight: Jodaun Dotson (2019)
Colorado Premier began to make some noise with their 16U unit last year with the addition of a talented point guard in Te’Rae Johnson.
It looks like the team has found another gem for that squad in Jodaun Dotson.
The 5-foot-11 2019 point guard was one of the more impressive players at his position in the 16U division of the Prep Hoops Spring Kick Off last weekend, demonstrating an ability to create offense and get others involved.
Dotson is a sharp ball-handler, has good toughness attacking downhill and has worked hard at becoming a consistent jump shooter.
And he’s enjoying his first season in the Premier stable under coach Luke Duckett.
“I’m really enjoying it,” Dotson said. “I’ve met a lot of good guys and really like the coaching staff. It’s a really good fit for me.”
Dotson, who started his career at Thomas Jefferson, played his sophomore season at Rangeview, where he averaged 6.7 points and 1.8 assists behind senior star Matthew Johnson, who this week signed to play at Northern Colorado.
With Premier, it’s been Dotson’s show to run. He’s got good weapons around him in Avery Rembao, Cameron Le Van and Kevin Sax, among others, and Dotson is the one tasked with putting everyone in the right position.
“They’ve helped me, as a point guard, really see the floor better,” Dotson said of the Premier staff. “They’ve helped me see the open man, make better decisions.”
We caught Dotson play an impressive game against Jaedon Bowles and the SevenTwentyKingz to begin the tournament last Saturday. With Bowles making one big shot after another to get the Kingz back in the game, Dotson stepped up and made big plays down the stretch to keep Premier in front.
He doesn’t need a lot of space to find a seam and burst to the basket. Dotson will take on a much bigger role for Rangeview next season as it tries to return to the Final Four. His leadership role this spring and summer should be a good start.
