PrepHoops Route 66 Kickoff: Look at Saturday’s top SLASHERS/FINISHERS
Daraun Clark, 6’6, 2018, San Antonion Wagner, Texas Tigers
A long, rangy wing player, Clark had it all working on Saturday against Team Carroll as his Texas Tigers hung on for an overtime win. He finished with 32 points, showing off a versatile skill set that included 3s, drives to the bucket and a nice free throw stroke. He also showed off the ability to get to the bucket and finish in traffic and had a nice Euro step late in the game that helped the Tigers pull out a win.
Clay Gayman, 6’6, 2018, Nevada, KC Pacers
Had several impressive dunks in the Pacers win over TJ Ford Houston. At 6’6, Gayman is one of the state’s top 2018 forwards and helped Nevada to a big season in 2016-17.
Daylen Kountz, 2018, Denver East, Colorado Hawks
A left-hander, Kountz has long strides and finishes well through contact. He’s an active performer on the defensive end which led to easy buckets in transition. Was able to show off his athleticism with a couple of nice dunks.
Cecil Lee, 6’6, 2018, Park Hill, KC Pacers
He was a dunk show in the Pacers’ opening game on Saturday, throwing down several impressive slams against TJ Ford Houston squad. He’s a long, rangy player with the ability to get off the floor quickly.
Bryant Mocaby, 6’5, 2018, Sunrise, Kansas Pray N Play
He’s a strong all-around performer at 6’5, but is at his best attacking the bucket and getting baskets off movement. He’s definitely a player to keep an eye on in the future after a strong junior season at Goddard.
Xavier Rhodes, 6’1, 2018, Rockhurst, Team Carroll
He’s really tough to contain off the bounce and has a knack for getting all the way to the bucket and finishing in traffic. He had numerous easy layups in Saturday’s contest against the Texas Tigers, either in transition or beating his man off the bounce. He doesn’t play above the rim per say, but is very adept at maintaining his body control and making tough chances look easy.
Austin Thompson, 6’2, 2018, MICDS, Team Carroll
Might have had the days best dunk as he threw one down in traffic against Texas Tigers helping spark a big comeback for Tim Ward’s squad.
Larry White, 6’5, 2018, Highland Park, Kansas Pray N Play
He really plays hard at the defensive end and is all over the place at the defensive end end. He was able to turn steals and turnovers into easy chances at the offensive end of the court due to his activity.
