Prep Hoops Colorado 4A Team Rankings: Week 6
With a heavy schedule of games coming out of winter break, there was plenty of room for shakeup after some big contests in the 4A ranks.
The action didn’t disappointment.
Take a look at how things stand in Week 6 of the season:
1. Pueblo West (8-1; LW: 1)
The defending state champs suffered their first loss of the season, but losing in overtime to a strong 5A team in Rampart wasn’t enough to knock the Cyclones out of the top spot, especially given that the tournament game was played on Rampart’s home court. They have a big game Monday night against defending 3A state champs in Colorado Springs Christian.
2. Valor Christian (8-3; LW: 2)
The Eagles continue to soar. They have only one in-state loss this season, that coming to 5A Doherty. And Valor is coming off an impressive victory over 4A JeffCo rival Golden on Saturday. If this team keeps clicking like this, it will be hard to beat. Its three victories last week came by 26, 25 and 15 points.
3. Sand Creek (10-1; LW: 3)
The Scorpions continue to look like a team on a mission following convincing victories last week over Lewis-Palmer and Air Academy. Colorado commit D’Shawn Schwartz has looked like a frontrunner for the player of the year award, and the supporting cast of Jeffrey Gary, David Jabedo and others has continued to shine as well.
4. Vista PEAK (8-1; LW: 5)
The Bison, who haven’t played since losing to Smoky Hill three days before Christmas, will finally return to the court Wednesday when they face Pueblo South.
5. Golden (9-2; LW: 4)
Before the loss to Valor Christian last week, Golden blew past Wheat Ridge, a game in which 6-5 forward Adam Thistlewood tallied 21 points on an impressive 10-of-12 shooting.
6. Holy Family (7-3; LW: 7)
The Tigers got off to a 2-0 start in Tri-Valley League play with resounding victories over Skyline and Frederick. Five Holy Family players scored at least seven points in the second victory, and Kyle Helbig had 14 points in the win over Skyline.
7. Mead (8-2; LW: 6)
The Mavericks responded to a lopsided loss to Valor Christian early last week by beating Erie 68-55 behind 32 points from Michael Ward.
8. Sierra (6-3; LW: 8)
The Stallions edged past Widfield behind 29 points from CJ Jennings. They followed that up with a 10-point win over Elizabeth. Stephan Deedon, a 5-5 senior guard, led the way in that one by hitting three 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 18 points.
9. D’Evelyn (8-2; LW: 10)
The Jaguars opened up JeffCo League play at 2-0 with convincing wins over Evergreen and Wheat Ridge. D’Evelyn will get a great chance to measure its impressive progress this season when it faces No. 2 Valor Christian, led by former D’Evelyn coach Troy Pachner, on the road Wednesday.
10. Northridge (7-2; LW: 9)
The Grizzlies were involved in two close games last week, edging Silver Creek 58-57 last Tuesday and then falling to Greeley West 73-68 on Saturday.
