Prep Hoops Colorado 3A Team Rankings: Week 8
Jostling continues to take place for positions in the top 10 of the Prep Hoops Colorado 3A Team Rankings.
Let’s see how the teams shake out heading into another week of big action:
1. Resurrection Christian (13-0; LW: 1)
The Cougars are averaging 85.8 points per game this season. That total is third — in the country. This is a team that has been firing on all cylinders in its jump up to 3A. The 5-11 senior guard Tanner Ervin is now averaging 28 points and nearly four assists per game.
2. Colorado Springs Christian (10-2; LW: 2)
The Lions rebounded from a loss to Pueblo West with resounding victories last week against The Vanguard School and Salida. Noah Hopkins, a 5-11 junior guard, has been a great complement to star Justin Engesser. The Lions will need him on Tuesday in a huge top-three matchup against undefeated Manitou Springs.
3. Manitou Springs (11-0; LW: 3)
The Mustangs ran to wins over Trinidad and Peyton last week by an average of 30.5 points. Now comes the biggest test of the season, a matchup with the two-time defending state champs. It’s going to be a doozy Tuesday night in Colorado Springs.
4. Kent Denver (11-2; LW: 6)
A 2-0 mark last week included an impressive 62-45 victory over an athletic Manual team. Benan Ersek, a 6-2 junior guard, led the Sundevils in that game with 21 points on efficient 8-of-11 shooting. Kent Denver has a big game Saturday against Colorado Academy as it aims to remain perfect in Metro League play.
5. Sterling (10-2; LW: 4)
The Tigers had in-state victories over Frontier Academy and Valley last week before narrowly dropping a game against Sidney High School in Nebraska. Sterling has just one game this week, at home Friday against Platte Valley.
6. Alamosa (9-1; LW: 5)
Ryan Brubacher, a 6-0 senior guard, led Alamosa with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the Maroons’ lone game last week, an 85-43 victory over Centauri. Brubacher has scored at least 20 points in six of his last seven games.
7. Basalt (9-1; LW: 10)
The Longhorns returned from a nine-day layoff to rout Delta behind a stellar performance from senior guard Michael Glen, who had 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting.
8. DSST Stapleton (9-3; LW: 9)
The Knights are at the top of the 3A Frontier League at 6-0 following victories last week over Bruce Randolph and Middle Park. Blake Pullen, a 6-0 senior guard, continues a strong campaign in which he is averaging 17 points and seven rebounds per game.
9. Lutheran (7-4; LW: unranked)
A 46-31 road victory over Bishop Machebeuf last week shows that Lutheran, a 3A Final Four team last season, is beginning to find its rhythm.
10. Bishop Machebeuf (10-2; LW: 7)
The Buffaloes struggled offensively in a 46-31 loss to Lutheran on Friday. They will get a chance to bounce back when they host Jefferson Academy on Tuesday.
