Here’s a look at where everyone stands after four full weeks:
1. Pueblo West (7-0; Last week: 1)
The defending state champs had a big week, going 3-0 with wins over Widefield, Windsor and No. 4 Holy Family by a combined 47 points.
2. Valor Christian (5-3; LW: 2)
The Eagles went 2-2 in one of the top divisions at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas last week. Kayle Knuckles, a 6-6 uncommitted senior, has been a model of efficiency this season, averaging a near double-double and shooting a high percentage from the field.
3. Sand Creek (7-1; LW: 3)
The Scorpions were off last week. They’ll be back in action when they host 5A Palmer in a non-league game on Jan. 2.
4. Golden (8-1; LW: 5)
The Demons have won six straight games since their lone loss of the season to Holy Family back on Dec. 3. Junior guard Adam Thistlewood is averaging 17.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
5. Vista PEAK (8-1; LW: 6)
The Bison, after beating Palmer Ridge to move to 8-0 last Wednesday, actually led 5A Smoky Hill by a point at halftime Thursday. Vista PEAK ran out of steam in the second half, suffering their first loss of the season, but this is a group that can really make noise in 4A.
6. Mead (7-1; LW: 7)
The Mavericks closed their pre-Christmas schedule last week with a rout of Roosevelt. A home game against Valor Christian on Jan. 3 will be a great barometer of how good this Mead team really is.
7. Holy Family (5-3; LW: 4)
After a strong start to the season, the Tigers hit a speed bump last week during back-to-back losses to Pueblo South (51-39) and Pueblo West (65-49). They’ll try to get back on track Jan. 3 at Skyline.
8. Sierra (4-3; LW: 9)
The Stallions closed their non-conference schedule in a big way by turning up the defense and routing Pueblo Central 46-28. This is a team that can hang with anyone in the classification when it’s running on all cylinders.
9. Northridge (6-1; LW: 8)
Oscar Maldonado and company were idle last week. The Grizzlies will put their six-game winning streak on the line against a quality Silver Creek team on the road on Jan. 3.
10. D’Evelyn (6-2; LW: 10)
The Jaguars, who only losses have come by a combined five points, get back to action when the host Evergreen on Jan. 5 to open 4A JeffCo League play.
