Recruiting Report: Cole Hegyi (2017)
Campbell County 6-foot-2 shooting Cole Hegyi has reeled in a variety of Division III and NAIA interest of late.
And though the 74th-ranked 2017 is still unsure of whether he will pursue hoops at the next level, he says if a school has the right academic opportunities then it’s a more distinct possibility that he will.
“I’ve talked to a couple schools, but I don’t have any offers. I’ve visited Otterbein University and Rose-Hulman has contacted me. Also the University of Northwestern Ohio has contacted me,” said Hegyi.
“I would like to play basketball in college, but I’m not sure at the moment if the right schools are recruiting me for the education I want to get which is engineering — which Rose-Hulman has engineering.”
As decent-sized guard with the ability to defend, Hegyi defined his playing style in his own words to PHK.
“I’d say I’m a really good defender. And on the offensive side of the ball I’d say I’m really good at getting to the basket and I have a pretty good pull-up game,” said Hegyi, who recently wrapped up his 17U season with Kentucky Premier.
“This summer we had a decent amount of scorers on our team, so I didn’t get as many shots as I would have gotten with my school team. But I thought I played pretty well.”
Now his focus turns to his senior season with the Camels.
“This year I’ll have more of a scoring role and more of a leadership role,” said Hegyi. “I’m going to have to take over the team.”
