Prep Hoops Oklahoma has scouted Oklahoma very heavily over the past three weeks with the High School season kicking off. Five Freshmen have stuck out as impact players in their first year of varsity basketball.
Ada graduated Cory Kilby last year, he signed with Mercer, and is having a great impact at Mercer in his freshmen year. As Kilby moves on in walks 2019 Guard Kobe Burgess. Over the first couple of weeks Burgess has dominated at Ada. This past weekend Burgess averaged 21 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists at the OBU tournament. Ada has rolled this season and Burgess has played a large part in the Cougars success.
Despite, moving to up a class, Fort Cobb-Broxton is one of the top teams in Class A. They have some top tier talent on their squad and one of the top freshmen in the state, Kellen Hines. Over the summer Hines got valuable experience playing up a level with the Oklahoma Wizards 15U on the Adidas Circuit. Hines is a crafty Point Guard that excels at running the show. He is a big time scoring guard, but adapts to what his role is on his team. Hines shots are limited at times with his older brother Cameron Hines and Greyden Steinmetz leading the team in scoring. Even with him being the third option Hines is averaging over 12 points per game. Yes, Hines plays at a small school in Oklahoma, but he is a big time 2019 prospect.
Booker T. Washington lost a huge piece from a year ago with Chris Miller graduating and signing with Oral Roberts. However, luckily for Booker T. Washington, Seth Hurd has stepped into a huge role. Hurd stands at a legitimate 6'7" in the paint for the Hornets. Hurd is an excellent rebounder and rim protector. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he shows signs of just how special he can be for the Hornets. Lookout Oklahoma, Seth Hurd could turn into a dominate big man.
Micah Speight has been the leader of Putnam City North for the past four years. In his final season Speight, has found his successor, Micah Thomas. Thomas is a 5'8" 2019 Point Guard, very similar to Speight in many aspects. Thomas is not only getting big minutes on a top team in Class 6A, but is starting for the Panthers. Thomas is a knock down shooter from the outside. He possess great confidence and it shows in his play on the court. Thomas is one of the best scoring guards in the 2019 Class. One of the big knocks on Speight is his size, Thomas is very similar, hopefully for Thomas he is able to grow a bit before his senior season.
Edmond Memorial seems to turnout a prime prospect every couple of years under Head Coach Shane Cowherd. This year the Bulldogs have the best player in the 2016 Class, Kristian Doolittle, and they might have the top player in the 2019 Class. Drew Tennial has a chance to be a top notch prospect for the Bulldogs. He stands at 6'3" on the wing, with great athleticism, and a solid build. Tennial is not afraid to shoot it from three, but really excels from mid-range. As his career continues Tennial will gain more confidence on the wing. He isn't the best 2019 prospect we have seen, but very possibly has the biggest upside of any 2019 prospect.
