Frederick is a squad that had solid guard play, and when you look at that squad, you think, how do you keep everyone happy with only one ball, and that is where I feel that Burton was so important. Despite there being some big-time scorers and shooters over there, they needed to have a guard who looks for others, keeps the ball popping, and takes care of it, and Burton did those things consistently in his senior year. Burton sacrificed a bit of his scoring to step up as a passer and two-way option for the team. He averaged 4.6 assists, which was one of the top in the Granite Peaks League, but also was one of the better rebounders as well at 4.2 boards a game. He played at a high level and showed that scoring isn’t the only thing that brings attention your way. Solid player.

I feel as if Frederick has been a team full of offensive firepower to start out the season, as they have backcourt depth that can compete with anybody in the state. To begin the season, it has been Burton who has provided the spark for the team. He’s been a primary scorer as a new name to know and seems to have a good feel for the game. He’s put up 8.7 points a game with his ability to shoot the 3-ball and get inside as well. Burton has been a player who has done it all for the team. He rebounds hard as he’s recorded 3 or more in each game, and also is an unselfish passer who makes the right play. He’s a name to know this season and one we will follow.

Burton brings a relentless motor for loose balls and second chance opportunities, one of the best hustle players at the 5A level. Up at 10.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists through his first five games, the guard has continued to make incremental improvements to round out his game. At his best while attacking the rim, he brings quick instincts as a passer out of kickouts, drawing in help defense multiple times a game. There are only a handful of guards in this class, maybe even the state, with Burton’s relentless defensive mindset.

Burton’s tight handle paired with his willingness to get deep into the paint for finishes or kickouts makes him a name set to break out at Frederick. Bringing smooth footwork once anchored in the paint, he is rarely sped up by opposing defenses. Burton brings productivity, following success last season with averages of 6.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. While a dependable scoring option in the paint, Burton still has room for growth behind the arc, the next step to rounding out his offensive game.

Burton is a high energy guard that is a walking bucket and can get it done on all 3 levels. On the defensive end he is a pest, pressuring the ball handler and he can get under their skin causing turnovers. He is a good on ball defender with quick hand and is able to poke the ball out, getting out in transition and getting an easy bucket. Has the hustle to get back on defense and get a stop after a turnover and stop an easy transition basket. He is a knock down shooter and is lights out from behind the 3 point line, lighting the defense up with his quick release. He is good inside the paint being able to get the ball inside and finish over the taller defender through contact.

Burton was a feisty player that was all over the court and was making it difficult on the ball handlers getting in the opponents head all day. He is able to score on all three levels and doing damage in the paint, scoring over taller defenders finishing with some good touch. He has good vision and can create shots for his teammates, kicking it out to the open shooter. He was one of the top guards of the day with his play.
