Lechuga is a prospect who entered high school as a sharp shooter who you had to know where he was the moment that he got on the court to now in his senior year as a do-it-all lead guard and team’s facilitator who is confident with the ball in his hands, reads defenses and has to be game-planned for. The game has slowed down for him, and he’s been delivering. He’s put up double figures in all but two games this year, he’s had some monster assist games as different matchups he’s adjusted to , and he still shoots a mean 3-ball. He’s more complete, and the team rides his momentum. He gets going in a hurry, impacts the game in various ways, and is a player who deserves more attention as Frederick has surprised. He’s the barometer for the team, and they go as he goes.

Lechuga is a crafty guard for Frederick who consistently makes an impact on both ends of the floor. With tight handles, he creates space for himself and navigates through traffic to get his shot off with ease. A smart playmaker, he delivers timely passes that keep the offense flowing and sets up teammates for easy opportunities. Offensively he’s aggressive, attacking the basket and finishing strongly at the rim. His combination of skill, vision and toughness makes him one of the top players in the league

Lechuga makes defenses nervous the moment he steps on the floor. Shifty and quick he can change direction on a dime, making him tough to guard one on one. Whether weaving through traffic, hitting pull up jumpers, or attacking the rim, he’s a constant scoring threat. His handles are tight, allowing him to break down defenders and create space for himself or teammates. Expect to see him slicing through defenses, finishing in traffic and hitting shots from all over the court. Lechuga’s combination of speed, skill and scoring instinct is why he’s earned a spot in the rankings and should make Frederick fun to watch this season

Lechuga had a solid junior season but stood out this summer when he showed that he could score and shoot with the best of them. His change of pace and ability to create shots off the dribble open things up for him and his teammates as well as his ability to run the offense. In a showcase setting, we want to see if that translates as well or was a result of a hot streak. Nonetheless, a solid outing can solidify what it is that we’ve seen from him as we expect him to have a big season. Might as well get started now.

Lechuga is a player we’ve seen highlights of for the past few years, but it was great to see him in live action. Let’s get this out of the way early — Lechuga can shoot it. He was one of the better shooters that we saw on the weekend. He knocked down open 3’s created for himself off the dribble and has a package that he gets into on iso situations with pull-up jumpers. He was also one of the better rebounders we saw from the guard position, as he battles for position, grabs the board, and gets on the break, doing the little things that keep you on the floor. He’s a guard that does a bit of everything and is a player that I feel that coaches should be paying attention to. Loved what I saw from Lechuga all weekend, and one of the biggest risers for me based on that play.

Lechuga has become more confident from distance, knocking down tough jumpers all season while holding his own versus tight pressure. With the ball on a string, he brings the scoring ability to play off-ball alongside the handle to run pick and roll actions when needed. He will be weighed upon more and more as the season goes by.

Lechuga has the ball on a string, allowing him opportunities to playmake out of ball screens. He showed upside as a shot creator from distance or the mid-range, smoothly rising up from all three levels. As he continues to get more comfortable facilitating in the halfcourt, Frederick shows plenty of upside with their wealth of backcourt playmakers.

Lechuga looks ready for a larger role handling the rock, effectively making reads out of ball screens or while attacking the closeout. Already bringing notable perimeter shooting off the catch, the guard is primed for a much larger opportunity for this new look Frederick team.
