Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Teaming with a handful of other District 1 stars for Keystone Blazers, Grasty put in a dynamic two-way effort to help coast into the second round. The junior guard played an exciting style with his quick-twitch athleticism attacking off the bounce and finishing in traffic among the trees. He showed a nice ability to blend in with other talent and make plays in the floor game after being used to having the ball run primarily through him for the bulk of the high school season. His ball pressure was also effective in forcing turnovers and sparking transition opportunities going the other way. Grasty continues tracking as a clear scholarship-level guard with a chance to catch some D1 attention on the Adidas circuit this spring and summer.

Off to an explosive start to his junior season, Grasty wasn’t required to be at his absolute best but picked his spots effectively throughout the game to lead the win. He got the game started with a designed backdoor lob to open the scoring, showing off explosive leaping ability that’s become a staple of his game. Grasty was compact with his handle to get into the lane consistently, showing smooth footwork as a finisher and setting teammates up for a handful of easy looks once he collapsed the defense. He helped break the game open in the second half by turning up his ball pressure on the defensive end, forcing multiple steals in the backcourt for layups going the other way. Grasty is looking more and more like a scholarship-level lead guard by the day, with a chance to catch D1 attention if he shows growth from the perimeter.

Among the most notable developments in the SOL and District 1 this offseason has been the development of Grasty into a future bona-fide scholarship-level lead guard. The dynamic floor general showed further signs of that growth on Saturday, manning the controls on both ends and playing an impactful floor game while keeping things honest as a scorer when needed. Grasty played with a bounce in his step while bobbing and weaving to his spots off the bounce and hitting teammates with crisp passes for easy looks. His instincts and athleticism help overcome limitations around his size, with continued progress as a perimeter shooter opening up possibilities at the D1 level as he adds to his resumé as an upperclassman.

An experienced contributor and now the unquestioned leader of high-octane Abington lineup as an upperclassman, Grasty set the tone from the outset with a dynamic two-way effort at the point of attack in the Ghosts’ resounding win over Sterling (NJ). A jet-quick floor general, he was impossible to keep from getting downhill before showing off his developing bounce on multiple explosive dunks. When scoring himself at the rim, he was mixing it up with his smooth 3pt stroke or touching the paint and kicking out to his shooters. On the other end, Grasty shined at the point of an Abington press that forced numerous turnovers and sped up the tempo going the other way. There may not be a more complete and impactful floor general in District 1 this season, with scholarship-level programs looking increasingly likely to come calling before too long.

There is no doubt that this multi-skilled point guard can score in bunches. Whether he is getting downhill off the bounce or using his feathery shooting stroke to pop jumpers, Grasty is a threat to explode for 20+ points on any given night. Still, it is Grasty’s ability to impact every other facet of a game that college coaches will love. He is a high IQ primary ball handler with tremendous instincts for when to deliver a well-timed dime in the half-court. Grasty can also use his speed, tight handles, and court vision to push the rock in the open court or break a full court press. Additionally, this sophomore is a fantastic rebounding guard and a plus defender. Grasty’s ability to keep his team organized on defense by constantly communicating with teammates is impressive. Grasty’s highlights from this season include recording 23 points (3 threes) and 7 rebounds versus Souderton as well as 17 points (2 threes) against Pennsbury.

Since we last saw Grasty it appears he has gotten taller and added muscle to his frame. What has not changed is that fact that Grasty can downhill quickly and attack the rim (going left or right) all day. Grasty’s dribble drives were complimented by his ability to pop jumpers from all over the floor. His high IQ, instincts and unselfish nature produced several creative dimes too. For a sophomore, Grasty showed poise and vocal leadership skills.
