Carey Smith | Prep Hoops Scout
Mokonchu’s recruiting stock surged this season after he displayed the consistent ability to hit threes, thus allowing him to operate as a stretch-4 prospect. His jump shot is also a threat from the elbows as well as the baseline. When he is not raining in jumpers, Mokonchu can attack the rim off the bounce, score on dives to the cup and work the offensive glass. Mokonchu’s positioning skills and smooth footwork enable him to post up smaller defenders and convert in close. This past winter Mokonchu averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per night. He pumped in 20 points (3 threes) against Germantown Academy. College coaches will love the combination of agility and size Mokonchu possesses.

After transferring from Spring Ford, Mokonchu has quickly found his role for FCS this season in a stretch-4. His jump shot is accurate from the baseline to the mid-range out to the arc. Mokonchu can also attack the rim from the wing off one or two dribbles. He is an agile prospect with length and a solid frame. That trifecta enables Moknochu to score on quick post ups and clean the glass at both ends. Earlier this week Mokonchu pumped in 20 points (3 threes) against Germantown Academy.

At the Luv1ne Classic we are interested to watch how this hybrid-forward is gelling with his new teammates. Mokonchu (formerly of Spring Ford) is an athletic prospect with a solid frame and a lengthy wingspan. He can produce points on dives to the cup, in pick-n-roll action and via the offensive glass. But Mokonchu’s most effective weapon could be his accurate mid-range jumper. His quick release and polished head / ball fakes make that element of his game difficult to defend. Mokonchu is also a creative distributor out of the high post.
