Monroe is a Swiss-Army knife who is a jack of all trades. He is a switchable defender who can guard multiple positions. Monroe is effective at making plays for himself and others throughout the game. Like how he imposes on defenders who are smaller than him. He plays above the rim and like he can score running the floor in transition or catching passes when slashing to the bucket.

It wasn’t the prettiest but Monroe was nonetheless highly effective while racking up 12 points and pulling down what felt like at least that many rebounds. He thrived on the strength of his size, athleticism, and boundless energy while setting a hard-nosed tone on both ends of the floor. The hybrid forward was an effective dumpoff threat around the rim and stood out on the defensive end with his ability to slide his feet on the perimeter and contribute as a secondary rim protector. His runout dunk just before halftime was key toward establishing the Blue Pride’s momentum heading into the break. He’ll have a chance to emerge as a bona fide D1 prospect over the course of the spring and summer.

Unlike many of the forwards ranked above him, Monroe doesn’t always have a feature role in his team’s offense, but nonetheless manages to impress by starring in his role and showing the two-way versatility that should go a long way toward intriguing college coaches. Monroe shines on the defensive end with a nonstop motor blending with his size, length, and mobility to allow him to guard across multiple positions and blow up plays as an off-ball playmaker. He thrives mostly as a finisher offensively, whether in the halfcourt or transition, but shows flashes of consistent floor spacing to the perimeter and even some playmaking off the dribble. Monroe is still a bit of a ball of clay, but one we’d be itching to get our hands on to develop in the right D1 situation.

Held quiet for much of the game with an uncharacteristically sluggish first half, Monroe stepped up in a big way down the stretch as a key complementary piece to help create separation and ice the game. The hybrid forward scored all of his 10 points in the second half including 8 in the fourth quarter, picking up his energy as the game went along and thriving as an athletic and opportunistic finisher around the rim. He showcased his defensive versatility throughout and helped swing the momentum with a key steal in the passing lanes leading to a swooping coast-to-coast layup. While still a work in progress, Monroe’s versatile two-way contributions at his size should give him a chance to catch D1 eyes with continued development over next year.

This long, athletic, and speedy wing prospect put on a show at the Rare Footage Pre-Live event. Monroe used his before mentioned physical gifts along with his impressive vertical to repeatedly finish at the rim with authority. He capped dribble drive attacks, fast breaks and follow put backs with crowd pleasing dunks. When Monroe was not flushing on opponent’s heads, he splashed threes and got downhill with his straight-line drives. Once he got into the paint, Monroe was also able to score via mid-range jumpers and runners. Plus, Monroe put the ball on the floor and then found cutting teammates with precise passes that led to easy lay-ins.

It was a key year of growth and maturation for Monroe, coming over from Freire Charter (PA) and getting accustomed to the rigorous daily expectations of the blossoming Cristo Rey program. While it didn’t always reflect in his production as a sophomore, the talent is there in spades for Monroe to burst onto the scene as an upperclassman. A hyper-athletic swing forward, he plays with a nonstop motor while displaying the type of two-way versatility that’s become coveted from his position in the modern game. As things continue to slow down for him and he gains another year of experience on the 3SSB circuit, look for Monroe to begin attracting D1 attention as soon as he steps into a more prominent role this coming year.

Monroe’s ability to Euro-step through traffic for a lay-in is impressive. On half-court possessions, Monroe is an effective in pick-n-roll and can produce points via the offensive glass.
