Phillips continued his summer emergence as one of the top forwards out west with his blend of fluid and explosive athleticism, ability to run the floor with purpose and energy and his activity as an offensive and defensive rebounder. Phillips’ long, wiry frame and mobility on both ends of the floor lend to his versatility and high long-term ceiling.

The 6’8 Wing/Guard is scratching the surface of his potential. We see the gradual improvements, expanding his game. The long athletic prospect is comfortable with ball in hand moving at a fast pace, he seems at best in transition for now, while polishing and expanding his overall skill set in the half-court. His range and shooting form is improved. He’s difficult to defend coming across the middle, catching, turning and putting up the paint jumper. He’ll play the high post, roam the perimeter, will aggressively attack when the opportunity presents itself. He was a standout at the Nike Elite 100 Camp.

William Phillips William Phillips 6'8" | SG Sacramento | 2029 State CA-N continues to show why he’s one of the more intriguing young wings in NorCal. He finished with a double-double, posting 13 points and 10 rebounds, while impacting the game in multiple ways. Phillips is a versatile wing who can do a little bit of everything.

He’s especially effective pushing the ball off the rebound, making the right reads in transition and turning those opportunities into easy layups for his teammates. Phillips has a tremendous first step that can beat elite defenders. He had it going early scoring nine of his 13 points in the first half. He did settle for a few perimeter looks in the second half, but that’s easier said than done when facing O’Dowd’s size in the paint. They had a big waiting for him once he passed the intial defender. 

Already possessing D1-level size and athleticism as a freshman, Phillips’ upside is obvious and his development will be worth tracking closely.

There’s some natural talent in Phillips. He’s long, runs, and moves at a good pace. At 6’8 out on the perimeter, he can handle and create off the dribble at times, use a burst that leads to points in the paint and dunks. He’ll rebound, help bring it up in transition. He might go coast to coast with a high flying dunk. He’s still developing his shooting form, but will shoot an open 3.
