Hegwood is no stranger to Roncalli’s backcourt. The junior point guard has started every game of his career at point guard for the Royals. On Saturday night he hit some big shots down the stretch and helped to put the game on ice at the free throw line. He was also a pesky on-ball defender throughout the game. Hegwood finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds to help lead Roncalli into next Saturday’s Semi-State.

Hegwood, a rising junior at Roncalli High School, finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists in the win.

The list of freshmen starting point guards at the Class 4A level would be a very short one. Hegwood stepped in and took the keys to the car at Roncalli averaging 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Now, as a sophomore, he should be ready to take on a heavier scoring role for the Royals. He is a very good ball handler with a high basketball IQ and great court vision.

Hegwood was a starting point guard at the Class 4A level as a freshman. There aren’t too many prospects in the Class of 2027 that can say that across the state of Indiana. He scored 5.1 points per game and was one of the assist leaders among freshmen in the state at 3.5 per game. The Roncalli product is a great ball handler, has the necessary vision to make any pass on the floor, and is a very willing playmaker for others. His play in the backcourt was a big part of Indiana Elite Team Tradition winning the 15u title at the Adidas Gold Championships.

Hegwood made an instant impact as a freshman for Roncalli as their starting point guard averaging 5.1 points and 3.5 assists per game. Now, with Drew Kegerreis graduated and on to IU-Indianapolis, he will likely be asked to step into a larger scoring role for the Royals. The 6’1″ guard plays well through contact, has excellent court vision, and is continuing to develop as a shooting threat from the perimeter.

Hegwood stepped into an immediate playmaking role for Roncalli this season averaging 5.1 points and a team-high 3.5 assists per game. The 6’1″ guard should be able to parlay that valuable varsity experience into a big spring and summer. He handles the ball very well, has some physical strength for his age to finish around the basket, and is a great passer.
