Look for Hooks to continue to carry the momentum that he has built so far in summer league play for Catoosa. We all know about his offensive skill and ability to score from all three levels. However, we are most intrigued to see him bring his physicality on the defensive end to lead the charge for the Indians. He will need to be at his best against MICDS (MO) on Friday to give his team a chance. The Rams won their first state title in 24 years, bringing home the Class 5 crown against Sikeston last March.

is a 6’4″ wing for the Rams that Catoosa will need to keep in check. His length and slashing ability could pose problems if he is able to use his physical strength and get into the paint.

Hooks was able to continue playing at a high level against McLain in the Bishop Kelley Summer League. TJ is reading defenses at a very high level without getting sped up. The junior guard was able to rise up and convert when defenders when under screens, while also showing an ability to finish on the break. He ran the wing hard and showed strength finishing through contact at the rim. Defensively, Hooks was engaged producing deflections and turnovers thanks to his active hands. Finally, as a distributor, he was able to provide teammates with rhythm catch-and-shoot triples by playing unselfishly. His ability to offensive rebound and look for others really made a difference and gave his squad confidence.

Since the move to Catoosa, Hooks has established himself as a bet on production prospect. That has been the case this spring, as he does a little bit of everything to impact winning for Southern Assault Texhoma. Provides floor spacing with deeper range from three. Has a bit of a throwback mid-range game too. While also being a good rebounder for his size, who can push the tempo off said boards. There’s a lot to like about the way he goes about doing the little things that add up to a big impact.

Hooks excelled off the bounce over the weekend. His strong play at the rim and ability to survey the defense off the dribble helped him provide both timely scoring and assists to teammates. Hooks was also able to get going from deep and complimented his driving ability with step back mid-range shots and spot up corner 3-pointers. When TJ has his outside shot working, he is nearly unstoppable because of his mentality and ability to take what the defense gives him. Look for the junior to continue to take steps as a very important piece for his Southern Assault Texoma team this summer.

TJ Hooks’ hustle and teamwork is what set him apart, embodying an active motor and unselfish play on both ends of the floor. His energy proved to be relentless whether he was chasing loose balls, competing on defense, or crashing the boards which he did on every shot, whether taken by a teammate or following his own miss. He also played with a team-first mentality often making the extra pass to find the open man. His unselfishness helped the offense flow smoothly and kept everyone engaged, creating a cohesive and balanced attack.
