Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Cyr was the most impressive player at yesterday’s camp. In the one on one drill, the 5-foot-10 guard completely dominated his opponents by using his strong center of gravity and veering into defenders before falling away for easy layups. But he also was the camp’s best passer and consistently got wide open three-point looks for his teammates once he punctured the paint. He has a knack for reading the second side of the defense, and he’s able to somehow see over the defense despite his lack of size. Cyr should be a high level D3 player when the time comes.

Cyr can occasionally do too much with the basketball and take some out of control shots, but when he really leans into his playmaking and vision, he’s awesome. He throws excellent passes and really understands how to read the defense. And the lefty is much quicker and more athletic than you think, so he can get to his spots on the floor to draw in the defense when he needs to. An improved three point shot would be huge for Cyr, but the junior point guard should have a nice season with House We Built.

It’s hard to pick one guy on Deerfield to highlight, because they play a really nice team-centric brand of basketball and get everyone involved offensively—it can be anyone who pops off on any given night. But Cyr’s point guard skills and table-setting ability is what pulls the offense together. He does a great job Nash dribbling under the rim and going from good shot to great shot, but he can also take advantage of the defense from the perimeter, both off the catch and off the dribble. Definite D3 player.

Cyr, a junior guard out of Deerfield Academy, plays as hard on both ends of the floor as any guard in the region. He’s an incredibly disruptive defender that can guard in space or at the point of attack in the half-court and often finds himself in the mix for loose balls and long rebounds. On the offensive end of the floor, he operates as a secondary ball-handler but shows terrific vision as a creator off the bounce, with the ability to sling passes all over the floor both on the move and from stationary positions. On top of that, his IQ and competitiveness stand out on the offensive glass, where he consistently keeps plays alive for his team. Only a junior, Cyr should garner plenty of attention from D3 programs this offseason and is the type of guard that will make an impact at the next level from Day 1 with his effort, energy, and desire to win.

Cyr is tough as nails with a never-ending motor and work ethic. He’s lightning quick off the bounce and is constantly looking to push the ball off makes and misses. Can also stretch the defense by shooting off the catch and from a standstill. Most impressive about Cyr, though, is his vision and ability to make weak-side reads offensively, despite not being able to see over the defense at only 5-foot-9.
