Simpson, a forward out of Deerfield Academy, continues to impress with his offensive versatility and ability to impact games on the glass. The 6’6″ forward is one of the region’s best rebounders, showing a great understanding of how to play angles and the ability to read the ball off the rim. He does a nice job of scoring around the basket and has the ability to operate as a decision maker out of the high post and from the top of the key. Defensively, he moves well enough in space and is strong enough to guard up and down a position.

Simpson is one of the better passing big men I’ve seen this AAU season. The 6-foot-6 forward constantly has his eyes up and is ready to make whatever pass is necessary. No matter where he catches it on the floor, he’s controlled enough to make the cross court or kickout pass while also being a threat to take it to the rim. I also saw him knock down a three and excel as a playmaker in transition. Simpson is a definite college player, it’s just a matter of what level will be the best fit for him. I could imagine the highest level D3 programs being interested in him as a versatile big man, but he might even be a scholarship player. He’ll be moving to the class of 2026 at Deerfield Academy next year.

Simpson was a menace on the boards all weekend. He couldn’t be kept off the offensive glass and was constantly winning his team extra possessions, and he was a finishing machine once he got the ball in the paint. Defensively, he cleaned up ALL the rebounds and took contact very well on boxouts. BCRI uses him as an offensive hub at the top of the key, and he does a really good job finding teammates for backcuts and slips. The LaSalle Academy senior who was RI Gatorade player of the year will be reclassifying to 2026 at Deerfield Academy next year.

Simpson is a versatile forward who does a good job of being in the proper spots on the floor to make a play. He makes a living playing out of the low and mid post and wills his way to places on the floor. He has good timing which allows him to collect rebounds. He doesn’t take plays off and has a good motor. Simpson does a good job running the floor in transition. He is patient around the bucket and can use fakes inside.

Simpson, a top performer for a La Salle squad that made it to the RIIL Open State Tournament championship, is a high IQ prospect with budding inside-out skills. One of the top post players in Rhode Island this season, Simpson has a nice combination of athleticism, basketball IQ, positional size, and skill. He has a variety of scoring moves in the paint and is a quality decision maker when he catches in the high post. He’s a terrific post defender that rarely commits fouls, does a great job of controlling the defensive glass, and is vocal as the last line of defense for his team. His best basketball is clearly still ahead of him and he even had moments this season where he looked like he’d be comfortable playing more regularly on the wing.
