Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
The freshman showed no fear and consistently found ways to make an impact on the game. His rangy arms were especially noticeable on the defensive end, where he frequently came away with steals. He finished with 12 points and displayed the ability to score in a variety of ways. I also liked how he filled the lane in transition, putting himself in position for easy scoring opportunities. In addition, he did a good job connecting with teammates and creating scoring chances for others throughout the game.

He oozes with long-term potential and really like how he uses his length to make an impact on defense. He shows some promise when he has the ball in his hands and is looking to navigate to different spots on the floor. He chipped in 4 points but didn’t need to have a major scoring impact to see the impression he had in the game. He was able to find others for scoring chances. Starling has explosive athleticism that he showed flashes of more than a few times during the game. I look forward to tracking his development over the coming years.

Starling didn’t stand out statistically, contributing more in flashes, but showed plenty of promising long-term indicators from a prospect standpoint. With size, length, and quickness that would fit in right away on a high school floor, Starling showed impressive skill and instincts while navigating downhill with some high-level reads when he got into the lane. Subsequent flashes of shotmaking touch and open-floor athleticism left us excited to see more of what the dynamic two-way guard has to offer in more structured settings.
