Expert Analysis

Easter does a good job of drawing fouls and getting to the charity stripe. He knocked down several tough shots from inside the two-point line and consistently found a body to box out on the glass. Used his length to alter shots. He also showed the ability to play above the rim. I would like to see him use jump stops more when attacking the lane. Also would like to see him play off two feet more often to stay under control in traffic. He also did a nice job finding teammates for scoring opportunities and finished the game with 10 points.

Easter finished with seven points, including five in the third quarter, and provided valuable depth as a reserve scorer. He showed the ability to make plays on the defensive end with his length and demonstrated versatility by guarding multiple positions. When attacking the basket, Easter isn’t afraid to seek out contact, using his physical style to put pressure on the defense. Would be a great fit at the small college level.

While senior year can often be the time to grab the reigns and boost your individual production, Easter has taken a back seat at times in pursuit of team success and has consistently brought value in his role for a Central Dauphin team that enters as the district’s top seed. A rangy wing who’s been averaging double figures since his sophomore year, Easter actually took a slight step back as a scorer from his junior season but still surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career earlier this month. He’s an effective off-ball weapon as a shooter and cutter with promising flashes of straight-line slashing ability and secondary playmaking. Young for his grade with winning experience, Easter could be an interesting high-upside option late in the cycle for the right scholarship-level program or prep school.

A familiar name as a legacy player and multi-year varsity contributor at CD, Easter will look to take a step forward of a senior following the departure of all-state guard Wayne Fletcher to the D1 ranks at Navy. Easter thrives in a supporting role on the wing, providing a clean complementary skillset to the Ram lineup with standout length and fluid athleticism. He’s shown to be a capable catch-and-shoot threat out to the perimeter with flashes of creating his own shot off the bounce against a rotating defense. While a slightly different player, Easter is not far off from the trajectory of his older brother, who elected for a prep year after graduating from CD before embarking on a successful career at the D2 level.

It will be exciting to watch Easter this winter on a Central Dauphin team that graduated their star guard and also hired a new head coach. Jelani spent every day in the gym over the summer, expanding his already dominant game. He uses his strength and speed to get to the basket and finish with ease. Both his athleticism and energy help to make him a great defender. With a continually improving jumper, Easter will do it all in hopes of getting the Rams back to the District 3 6A championship.

The potential has been there for some time, but Easter has shown real progress in the past year when it comes to parlaying his wide array of tools into more consistently impactful production. An active swingman with notable length and energy on both ends, he’s most effective as an efficient and athletic finisher off straight-line drives or off-ball cuts. He keeps things honest as a capable spotup shooter (especially from the corners) while also using his athleticism to collect steals and rebounds. Young for his grade and with a late-blooming brother who found success at the D2 level, there looks to be untapped potential still with Easter as he adds strength and refines his handle and decisionmaking.

The athletic and high-flying Easter (14 ppg.) only scored 7 points in this game, but he still impressed. Easter is an exceptional athlete who excelled on the fast break. This instinctive wing prospect flashed an accurate jumper with deep range too. On defense, Easter’s quickness, length, and hops enabled him to guard 2 through 5. Easter holds an offer from Clarion University (D2), and we expect more will come pouring in during the spring / summer grassroots circuit.
