I admired the energy that Seth brings when he is on the floor and he was a game changer in Saturday’s win. He is very athletic and was flying around the floor whenever he was in the game. The senior guard was fun to watch when he got going following forced turnovers in transition, including a missed dunk that would have been the best of the season I have seen that he was so close to flushing home. He welcomed any contact on drives to the basket, regularly drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. Newbern also knocked down a tough mid-range jumper off the dribble on his way to a team-high 20 points.
Seth put together a nice game that had Armstrong in it until the very end. In the 2nd half he started to take advantage of his size, and was taking opposing guards into the paint where he was able to use his height and strength to catch and turn for a couple of physical buckets out of the block. Also showed off his high flying athleticism with an alley-oop dunk off of a backdoor cut, before hustling back to contest a shot, and then again running the floor for a tough finish at the rim. Offers some versatility on the defensive end because of how strong he is at 6’3, while also having the agility to stick with smaller guards. He finished the game with 17 points.
Seth put in one of the best defensive performances I’ve seen this season. At 6’2, the junior guard is strong, quick, and possesses long arms that make him a menace on the ball. He was picking up opposing point guards and defending on an island for the length of the floor. His ability to slide his feet and force his man to change directions constantly made it difficult for Washburn to get into their offense. Off the ball he was also extremely active as he drew two charges and also blocked a pair of shots. Offensively he showcased a smooth shooting stroke and used his athleticism to get to the rim and finish both off the drive and in transition.

is a six-foot-two-inch guard from Armstrong high school. Over the course of his first three games Newbern has scored 50 points in three wins. He’s also averaging 6 rebounds, 4 assists and almost 3 steals per contest. The athletic guard really gets after opponents when on defense where turnovers he creates leads to fastbreak dunks or breakaways for his team. With not many defenders that can stay in front on Newbern, he naturally attacks the rim and finishes lay-ups at a higher than average rate.
