Kornowski is part of a strong SPASH team, as he can facilitate with the ball and is a floor spacer off the ball. Sam, who runs with Wisconsin Playmakers
, is a pick and roll maestro capable of scoring from the midrange, finding the roll man, or pulling up from three. When Kornowski does get to the basket, he plays very well off of two feet and uses impressive finishes to get the ball through the net. Kornowski had 12, a handful assists, and a bunch of rebounds in Stevens Point win over a talented Arrowhead team. The way that Kornowski can play offensively, rebound, and defend, makes him a junior to closely monitor in July, and going into next winter.
Kornowski’s athlelticsm shined brightly as he was able to get downhill with ease in their Friday night contest. The guard out of Stevens’ Point is quick, skilled, and uses his athleticism to get to the rim. Sam can pull-up from the mid range and has great court vision to find his teammates as well. I was impressed with his footwork and his ability to knock down perimeter shots, especially off flare screens in the Playmakers’ offense. Kornowski has a bright future for a SPASH squad that brings back some talented pieces next season.
A key player as a sophomore for a Stevens Point squad that tied for the Wisconsin Valley Conference title and won 19 games, Kornowski averaged 11.4 points and 3.9 rebounds for the Panthers last winter. He easily led Stevens Point in three-point shooting as he connected on 56 of 127 tries from beyond the arc for an impressive 44 percent. Kornowski is versatile in that he can play either guard spot and, at 6-foot-3, had the ability to shoot over smaller defenders and make things difficult for his counterparts on the defensive end due to his size and length.
