Expert Analysis
Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Not only was he one of the best prospects I saw on Saturday, but he might’ve helped his stock more than anyone else at the event. Aligbe is a load in the frontcourt. On first glance he looks like a big-bodied, physical center; however, his game is more naunced than that and he showed an impressive amount of skill throughout the course of his matchup with Bradford Christian. Aligbe was at his best when he was attacking closeouts off the bounce and playing with a high motor on the glass; but also showed glimpses of playmaking ability and a nice touch from behind the arc. It’s no surprised that he followed up his performance this weekend with an offer from Central Connecticut State.

Rolyns absolutely dominated the painted area in the win over South. He grabbed just about every rebound in reach on the offensive and defensive side, creating several second-chance opportunities for himself and minimizing any for South. He was unstoppable in the post, bullying defenders to get close to the basket where he would then lay it in with his right hand. Aligbe also threw down a pair of forceful dunks, one following an impressive spin move in the post and the other coming from running in transition. The senior forward had to have been close to a double-double, as he scored 14 points and was a force to be reckoned with on the boards.

Rolyns was a huge reason why Minnehaha was keeping this game competitive against one of Class AAAA’s best. I know Buffalo doesn’t have a bunch of size, but it was still impressive how Rolyns was able to go to work down low despite being the focal point of the opposing defense. He has a big and strong frame, and is very quick on his feet for someone listed at 6’9. Rolyns was able to catch on the block, feel his man out, and quickly spin towards the basket for an easy lay-up. Was also a threat just powering up after an offensive board or dump-off pass. His quickness and handle for a player his size is very impressive, as he can take opposing forwards off the dribble in a way you wouldn’t expect. Rebounded the ball hard and finished at a high level inside on his way to 33 points. Rolyns has been very impressive this winter for the Redhawks.

The opposing defense just didn’t have an answer for Rolyns in the paint. Some teams might have a guy who can match his height, and some might have someone with the strength to match him, but rarely will you find someone with that combination of size and power that Rolyns has. Rolyns can catch on the block and just over power his man as he backs him down into deep position before finishing. He’s also very light on his feet with the ability to step out, face up, and then beat his man off the dribble to get to the rim. Rolyns was running the floor hard in transition and picked up a dunk in the process. Defensively he makes it extremely hard to get an entry into the post, and he has strong hands to catch and secure rebounds. Finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals in the big win.
