One. Strong Field. Four of the top ten, 10 of the top 20, and 15 of the top 25, and 18 of the top 30 teams in the state of Minnesota 17u rankings will be playing in the event. One of the better 17u teams from Wisconsin is also coming to the Minnesota State Tournament for 17u and a couple solid North Dakota teams. This is one of the better fields this event has had recently and if all the top seeds move to the final four we could get an excellent final four of Minnesota Spartans versus Minnesota Select Mantey, and Minnesota Lightning against Minnesota Select Fuerte who just took second in the Scheels Prospect Series.
Two. Top Prospects. A very nice group that includes Jerome Williams Jr Jerome Williams Jr 6'0" | PG Rock Creek Christian Academy | 2024 MD of Minnesota Spartans , Jaden Morgan Jaden Morgan 6'4" | SG DeLaSalle | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Select , Shaun Wysocki Shaun Wysocki 6'7" | SF Rochester Century | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Lightning, Rolyns Aligbe Rolyns Aligbe 6'9" | C Minnehaha Academy | 2023 State MN of Minnesota Spartans , and Brooks Johnson Brooks Johnson 6'6" | SF Duluth Marshall | 2025 State MN of Starks Elite headline this field. All players have been offered full scholarships and all players will continue to add interest.
Three. Surprises. Players want to play. That is why we’ve seen everybody from Tyus Jones to Daniel Freitag Daniel Freitag 6'1" | PG Breck | 2024 State #142 Nation MN to Rashad Vaughn to Jalen Suggs jump on a team and play in this event in past years. And we can guarantee it will happen again this year. Last year Jalen Wilson Jalen Wilson 6'8" | PF Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State #230 Nation MN played with Select and many of the Howard Pulley 15s kids made their own team to compete for NHR State. Who will it be this year? We will have to wait and find out!
Four. Match-Up To See. I’d say the match-up I am most looking forward to seeing is if Shaun Wysocki Shaun Wysocki 6'7" | SF Rochester Century | 2024 State MN , Jaden Morgan Jaden Morgan 6'4" | SG DeLaSalle | 2024 State MN , and/or Brooks Johnson Brooks Johnson 6'6" | SF Duluth Marshall | 2025 State MN go against one another. Any combination of these three in a top wing vs top wing match-up would be excellent to watch. Johnson has multiple D1 offers while Wysocki and Morgan are two of the hottest names from this past spring.
Five. Upset Alert! Where could we see an upset? I will give you three teams that I think could pull an upset and get in that final eight: Northern Lakers , Gain Elite , or Powerhouse Minnesota. These are teams that have had some wins recently and they are some teams with a couple players that could surprise. Abe Soumis of Northern Lakers is one that I will try and get out to see.
Extra. Anthony Przybilla. Anthony is the son of former Monticello and Minnesota Gophers standout Joel Przybilla and his Milwaukee Trail Blazers (Joel of course played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers) will be in this event. It’s a chance for Anthony to play in front of his grandparents locally and hang out with family. They are a pretty good team too.
