Going out with a spirited effort in his last high school game, Westfield did all he could to put the Crusaders in position to play for back-to-back state titles. The senior guard came alive late in the game, scoring 16 of his game-high 17 points in the second half. Westfield delivered a trio of 3s, including a buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter. He was also effective using his size and strength to work toward the basket and convert tough buckets over smaller Imhotep guards. Westfield struggled at times with the Panthers’ swarming ball pressure but his tough-nosed impact was the key toward keeping Judge in the game until the final buzzer.

He didn’t make a field goal and wouldn’t score his first points until late in the fourth quarter, but make no mistake Westfield was a crucial piece to the win with his hard-nosed two-way floor game. The Merrimack commit ran the show from start to finish, keeping his team organized in the face of an early deficit while racking up 5 assists and taking good care of the ball. Perhaps more important was the defense he played on Wood’s All-League guard

, picking up at halfcourt and mirroring the ball to perfection while forcing turnovers left and right. His performance was a perfect encapsulation of how to impact games without scoring from the lead guard position.

Often the unsung hero of the eventual PCL champions, Westfield built on the splash he made at the Palestra last season with four 3s and established himself as an All-PCL guard in his first year as a fulltime starter. While he’s most effective as a sharpshooter, highlighted by his followup Palestra semifinal performance in which he knocked down six triples, he showed real growth this year as a ballhandler and secondary playmaker who could potentially handle lead guard duties at some point in college. He doesn’t jump off the page physically or athletically, but is deceptively strong and quick laterally to be able to bother opposing guards defensively. Westfield’s growth paid off with Merrimack extending him his first D1 offer late in the season.

Westfield’s stellar play over the last month has made him a household name in SEPA. During Judge’s PCL semifinal win over St. Joe’s Prep, Westfield poured in 20 points on the strength of 6 made triples. He also posted 10 points (2 threes) in the D12-6A Championship game against Imhotep. Now Westfield is looking to use the 6A state tourney to put his name on the national recruiting map. Westfield tipped off that quest by scoring 16 points (4 threes) in Judge’s 1st Round win over Garnet Valley. This year Westfield shot 40% from behind the arc and has drained 60+ threes. College coaches will love Westfield’s quick release, deep range and well-timed off ball movements. He also owns the speed and finishing skills to score in the open court. Westfield (11 ppg. & 4.5 rpg.) holds an offer from Merrimack, but more DI programs should be texting this shooting guard.

It was far from the breakout 20-point effort he had during Judge’s semifinal romp, but Westfield’s toughness and floor game were still felt throughout the win. Battling the flu, he defended the ball impressively and crashed down for a number of tough boards, while helping to spell Kennedy as a secondary ballhandler on the other end. He saved his one bucket for the decisive quarter, knocking down a cold-blooded deep three to counter a Sutton flurry and take back the lead. Coming off his first D1 offer from Merrimack, he’ll look to keep up his momentum into states and the spring grassroots season.

College coaches will love Westfield’s ability to splash threes of every variety and from all over the court. This season Westfield is shooting 40% from deep and has drained 50 threes (and counting). Last week during Judge’s PCL semifinal win, Westfield popped 6 triples (19 pts. total). Shortly after that game Westfield (10 ppg. & 4.5 rpg.) received an offer from Merrimack.

Those in attendance at last year’s semifinals may remember Westfield as he knocked down four 3’s to help keep Judge within striking distance before ultimately bowing out to Roman. There may have been some deja vu when Westfield came out firing again, this time cashing in FIVE times from deep before the halftime buzzer. He would ultimately make six 3’s en route to a 20-point effort. A consistently efficient sniper off the catch, Westfield has boosted his stock this year by rounding out his game as both a defender and dribble-drive threat. He’ll have a chance to continue elevating into the spring and summer as he takes on more ballhandling reps in the grassroots season.
