He greatly improved his outside stroke, becoming a more confident and capable weapon from deep range. This development has made Preston a much more well-rounded scorer, now giving him the third level to his three-level scoring mold. Heffner is still at his best driving the ball against rotating defenses, so if he can add the ability to beat defenders off the dribble in more creative ways, he could see another big boost in his stock.

Heffner is another Carolina Pressure 2028 who impressed at the 17U level last weekend. Preston has put together a steady month with CPB, showing excellent progression with his perimeter shot. He was 4-9 from long range in the game I checked in on, showcasing a really good feel for knocking down threes on the move and off designed looks. Heffner has always had good size and been really comfortable finishing at the rim off drives, so this hot streak of perimeter shooting is a really enticing attribute to monitor for college coaches.

Preston was a bright spot in Catawba Ridge’s loss to Abraham Lincoln (NY) in the 3rd-Place Game. He flashed his long-term potential as an elite scorer with 11 quick points in the second quarter. Heffner is at his best when looking to get to the rim, and he just has a knack for beating defenders off the dribble and finishing around bodies. Preston also showed some craft in scoring in transition and knocked down a catch-and-shoot three, the latter being a huge piece in his outlook as a college prospect. Keep an eye out for this Sophomore to have a solid region season for the Copperheads.

He has been on a tear since re-joining CPB this month, and continued that with a big first game in Bermuda Run. The first thing that jumps out at you when you watch Preston is his length, as he uses it effectively on both ends of the floor. Heffner also has lots of moves in his bag to be an efficient paint scorer, including comfort with both hands, good touch, reverse lays, the ability to play off two, and the aforementioned length. He will also contribute on the glass, looking to take the ball coast-to-coast if the lane is open. Preston racked up 16 points, 3 steals, and 1 block in the win over the Hurricanes.
