finished the 65-43 victory over Barbers Hill with a resounding 22 points and this doesn’t even count the extra work he put in on defense and running both guard spots on offense. The opposition simply didn’t have an answer for the 2027 guard as he sliced and diced the defense repeatedly for consistent and easy buckets from all three levels. Jones was a major help crashing the glass on both sides of the ball and he helped handle the basketball under full court pressure for a good duration of the game. Jones continues to prove why he is an elite prospect in Texas for the class of 2027, and he is also coming off a strong AAU grassroots summer as well.

continues to see his stock rise as his two-way production sets him apart. He stuffed the stat sheet in key wins, including a 28-point performance with 2 three-pointers, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal to take down Beaumont West Brook. Jones’ scoring came with defensive intensity, physicality, and maturity beyond his years. His ability to impact both ends consistently is what separates him as one of the top emerging talents of this calendar year.

‘s 31-point performance against San Antonio Harlan was nothing short of an offensive clinic. Throughout the game, he consistently led in points, with points in every quarter and overtime. Jones’s ability to get to his spots frequently created numerous open shot opportunities off the dribble. His aggressive offensive play not only generated scoring chances but also forced San Antonio Harlan defenders to struggle defensively, making it difficult for them to contain him. Every time I watch Payton play, he continues to make a name for himself.

is a physically gifted point guard with extraordinary length with arms that seem to stretch down to his knees, giving him a natural advantage at the position. He consistently draws fouls and lives at the free-throw line by using shoulder dips, sweep-throughs, rip moves, and abrupt pull-ups right into a defender’s space to force whistles. His blend of athleticism and craft makes him a constant problem for defenses trying to contain his drives.

has been receiving numerous Division I offers throughout the summer due to his exceptional on-court abilities. During the Space City Collision, Payton demonstrated his abilities as a Division I prospect when the Blue Chips effortlessly defeated their opponents that weekend. His long wingspan is a significant asset on defense, enabling him to cover ground effectively and disrupt passing lanes. On the offensive end, Payton is not a player who forces shots; instead, he makes smart decisions, getting to his spots with the ball in various situations. I particularly appreciated his decision-making in pick-and-roll, transition, and half-court situations, where he excels.
What’s Next for Payton?
Payton, currently ranked top 20 in Texas and a top 5 combo guard according to Prep Hoops, will be teaming up with some formidable players at Beaumont United this upcoming fall. I’m certain Beaumont United will have a substantial playoff run. As a rising junior, I believe Payton will continue to make strides and receive even more offers. The more he enhances his game, the more lethal he becomes in his high school career.

looks poised for a major breakout season and could emerge as one of, if not the biggest combo guard stock risers in his class across the state. His long arms and wiry frame give him deceptive length for his size, which enhances both his finishing ability and his capacity to hang in the air and absorb contact around the rim. Jones showcased explosive two- and three-dribble combos that consistently generated enough separation to operate from his sweet spots in the mid-range. He converted with leaners, fadeaways, and turnaround jumpers, often elevating well above contesting defenders to create a clean look. His body control and elevation in these scenarios were advanced and consistently effective. What stood out the most was his refined shot selection. Jones scored efficiently within the natural flow of the offense, never hunting for looks or forcing contested deep threes out of rhythm. He was surgical from the mid-range, where he knocked down jumpers with the consistency of free throws. His perimeter shooting was equally impactful, especially in transition, where he knocked down spot-up threes off kick-outs with confidence and rhythm.

is a 6’1 guard that has many ways of impacting both ends of the floor. Against Cenla Hoops, offensively he displayed a fluid shooting form that he used in the mid-range and perimeter resulting in made field goals in multiple spots. When handling the ball, he has shiftiness that creates open driving lanes for himself and passing opportunities to his teammates especially after defensive stops. His vision was evident getting multiple teammates involved within the offensive. Defensively he showed that he had good reaction time to jumping passes when opposing guards tried to pass the ball over him resulting in stealing. Also, he was on the defensive glass a lot which turned into started transition opportunities for his team.
