Expert Analysis
Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Dehaney, a guard out of Proctor Academy in New Hampshire, checks in at #15 among the point guards and #79 overall in this rankings update. A standout performer for Proctor this winter, he earned All-NEPSAC honors and proved to be a dynamic scorer. He’s incredibly crafty scoring around the rim, particularly when finishing over size, and is capable of heating up in a hurry as a shooter from behind the arc. He gives good effort on the defensive end of the floor and with his quickness, is able to jump passing lanes to create turnovers. Dehaney will play with Northern Kings Basketball this summer.

Dehaney had an excellent performance—24 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds—in a one point win for Proctor against a very talented Holderness squad a few days ago. The 5-foot-11 guard shot it well from three, both on the move and off the dribble, and he also operated comfortably in the pick and roll and as a point guard. He’s super quick and shifty, and he understands how to leverage his center of gravity and first step to get by defenders and make up for his lack of size. He’s a pure point guard who should be a high D3 prospect when the time comes.

Dehaney is a pure hooper. The Proctor point guard has a great head on his shoulders and understands how to operate an offense and pick his spots when it comes to attacking vs. getting his teammates involved. His superpower is his quick shot release; he consistently lulls defenders to sleep with slow dribbles and head fakes, only to quickly get off a three point or mid range look. And he knocks them down quite often. He also has great passing instincts/vision and loves to show some flash in his passes. The 5-foot-11 guard might not be recruited to scholarship schools because of his lack of size, but he has tons of game.

Dehaney was a clear bright spot for Proctor in their loss against Beaver Country Day. While many of his teammates were stagnant on the perimeter, the junior guard was able to get into the paint via the dribble and finish at the rim with confidence. Most impressive, though, was Dehaney’s ability to get his three point shot off, even with defenders draped over him. The 5-foot-11 guard has an insanely quick release and is quite accurate with his shot, so he’s lethal from long range. His pull up in the mid range is also impressive. The junior guard should be a key cog for Proctor all season and will get D3 looks when the time comes.
