Patterson’s future in on the football field for the Pitt Panthers, but that has not stopped him from performing on the hardwood this summer. The strong, physical forward 17 points in a win over Florida Blaze. The 6’7 rising senior finishes everything around the rim, uses his strength and motor to dominate on the glass and knows how to play. He is a capable passer from the post and has good hands and touch around the rim.

Patterson impacts games with power, activity and versatility offensively. The strong forward scores in a variety of ways and moves extremely well without the basketball. Max consistently finds openings through shuffle cuts, high-low seals and timely flashes around the paint.

Once he catches inside, Patterson attacks with purpose and finishes through contact using strength and touch. Defensively, he protects the rim effectively with his length and physicality. His ability to score without needing isolation touches makes him an attractive frontcourt piece entering the live period.

While his long term future may be on the gridiron, Patterson has turned heads this spring with the Atlanta All Stars. The junior forward brings a strong, versatile skill set, scoring efficiently around the rim with either hand while also showing the ability to step out and knock down open shots from beyond the arc. He’s a better than average athlete with a high basketball IQ, consistently impacts the game on the glass, and competes at a high level on both ends of the floor.

While his future is likely on the gridiron at the collegiate level, Patterson is force for the Bulldogs in the frontcourt. His combination of strength, mobility and effort make him very productive on the offensive end and he has shown an improved ability to finish in the paint and handle the ball on the perimeter.
