Garris put up some big numbers in his first year at Mt. Vernon and led the Mustangs to their first GHSA State Championship in school history. Garris is a volume scorer that understands how to use his solid frame to his advantage. He’s strong on the drive and finishes well through contact, great with floaters and pull-ups too. Garris holds offers from Southern Illinois, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, and Georgia State.

Garris came back from an early injury scare to produce 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. The big guard is physical, adept at barreling to the rim and finishing in traffic. He has switchability on defense, capable of defending nearly every spot on the floor. When his three-point shot is dropping, KJ is extremely hard to corral. Southern Illinois, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion and Georgia State have all offered.

Mt. Vernon couldn’t quite get it done in the end but KJ Garris did everything he could to give the Mustangs a chance. Garris absolutely took over certain parts of the game and when Mt. Vernon needed a bucket, the ball was in his hands. 17 of his 27 points came in the 2nd half. Garris is always looking to get downhill and his solid frame allows him to absorb and brush off contact on his way to the cup. He’s a strong finisher in traffic and typically makes several trips to the free throw line too. KJ Garris will be a popular name amongst coaches this spring.

has been steadily moving up our 2025 board over the past year and the recent move to Mt. Vernon brings more attention his way as he’s been a major contributor for one of the top programs in the state. Garris isn’t incredibly quick or twitchy but he’s one of the better shotmakers across the state, rarely affected by contesting hands. He uses his broad frame extremely well when shielding off defenders on his way to the cup. Expect Garris to attract plenty of college coaches in the spring.

Much like Cole, Garris broke out on the summer circuit and showed us the elevated level he’s capable of playing at. He makes the jump from Centennial to Mt. Vernon with a new level of confidence and I expect him to tear it up in 1A. Garris is great off the dribble, quick to get downhill, and can score it from multiple levels. When Garris announced the move to Mt. Vernon, it solidifed them as the frontrunner in 1A-D1 as Garris should provide a hefty amount of perimeter scoring.

Garris has really helped himself this spring, playing a major role for the Georgia Stars and proving he can play either guard spot effectively. Garris pairs a smooth jumper from the outside with a handle and physicality that allow him to get inside and create from there. The move to Mt. Vernon should be beneficial for Garris. Picked up recent offers from Georgia State, Old Dominion, and Kennesaw State.
