Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Jonah had a solid playoff run for 3A State Champs South River. He really emerged as one of the most dangerous perimeter scorers in the playoffs, putting together an elite shooting display in both the semifinals and the championship games. He knocked down a barrage of three-pointers, consistently punishing defenses for giving him space. Once defenders began to close out Jonah showed his ability to attack off the bounce. He was able to get into the paint and finish through traffic with either hand. His combination of shot-making, efficiency, and composure against top competition ultimately earned him MVP honors, solidifying his impact as a true difference-maker.

One of the best performances I’ve seen out of Hall in arguably the biggest game of his career. The 6-foot-1 guard tee’d off from three in the first half and was a main reason South River built the lead they did heading into halftime. With timely lifts to the top of the key as others establish paint touches, Hall lit up Magruder on catch-and-shoot looks with efficiency as 17 of his game-high 24 points came in the first two quarters. Hall capped off his high school career helping his father and the head coach, Darren Hall, to the program’s first state title.

13p 7r 3a 1 charge drawn vs Glen Burnie
-Hall’s perimeter jumper wasn’t falling at its normal clip, but I like that the senior didn’t let that affect his defensive effort or his ability to snag some timely defensive rebounds to close out possessions for his team. Hall got it going in the 2H with B2B threes coming out the gate, the first of which was a deeeeeeep 3 off the catch from the volleyball line to push his team on a 8-0 run to build a double-digit lead that they retained for most of the 2H. The senior then put his body on the line to draw a charge in transition to foul out the opponent’s (at the time) second leading scorer to continue to push the game further out of reach on his senior night.

-Hall has consistently held it down as a starter that can thrive both on or off the ball because of a diverse skillset. His confidence as a shooter will push him to let go a contested three even if he was 0-6 before it because he is just as likely to make his next 6 shots. Love the consistent follow-through and lift on his jumper from beyond the arc but he is starting to hit floaters and short turnaround jumpers in the paint with more consistency. Hall’s development as a guard that sees the floor well allows him to execute cross-court skip passes to teammates that would be dangerous for other players– but because of his shooting gravity– he is able to find teammates with ease in the halfcourt. Hall won an AA championship as a sophomore and will look to go out on top again in his final season as one of the leaders for a 2026 group that has been together for awhile.

15p 2a 2s vs McDonogh
-On a day that saw the Seahawks struggling to score, Hall provided some firepower from the perimeter with four made 3s. Although he struggled with turnovers in the 1H, he continued to generate paint touches to shift the defense and try to create open looks for a teammate. Although I wouldn’t say his crossover dribble is super explosive, Hall has a pretty effective handle and usually does a pretty good job of handling ball pressure whether it’s 94 feet or in the halfcourt. If he hits a growth spurt by the end of the season and continues to improve his athleticism, he would be a sneaky good late add for a small college program in need of a shooter.

12p 7r 5a 3s vs North County
-Hall is proving that he is more than a shooter this season, chipping into the paint to steal rebounds in traffic and creating well for teammates when opposing guards close out hard on him on the perimeter out of respect for his shooting prowess. Hall hit a driving layup and made the ensuing FT to give his team a 3-point play the old-fashioned way, high-pointed a rebound with nice touch to score on a putback, and hit two kickout threes in transition to help his team come back in this matchup with an AA County foe. The son of a coach, if he continues to grow (father is 3-4 inches taller) and develop his skillset– college coaches will begin to take notice.

-Shoots the ball at a pretty high level but understands when to duck under a closeout and get into a 1-dribble jumper. Handles it better than you would expect as a shooter, escaped several double teams and was pretty smooth in weaving through the defense after collecting a steal at halfcourt. Hall is in the right spot as a help defender, doesn’t sell out for shot fakes and pokes out some loose balls when opponents aren’t looking. I liked that even as a high-level shooter that doesn’t need much airspace, he moves the ball well around the horn to other shooters to create open looks and make his team more difficult to guard
